Hello, guys. I have the problem with the display of the gain reduction in the native cubase plugins. The situation in this that gain reduction shows, for example - 3 db, but the indicator on the pole shows twice as much or more than this. And it happens in the native Compressor, Expander, Brickwall Limiter, Multiband plugins, etc. Everywhere, where we have the gain reduction indicator. Only with the native Cubase plugins. With the compressors with the same gain reduction indicators, for example, from Waves I don’t have this problems. And the most interesting moment, that I don’t have this problems in my Cubase 11 Pro. Only in Cubase 13 Pro. My setup is Macbook M1 Max & Sonoma 14.7. I tried to delete and reinstall Cubase 13 Pro, but that didn’t help, unfortunately.
Here is the link with the 2 videos of example in the different Cubase versions - CUBASE GR BUG - Google Drive.
took me some time to realize what you mean…
I don’t think that is a bug, they just changed the range of the gain reduction meter. I think your confusion comes from the scales to the left and right of the gain reduction meter, but those are for the input and output meters, not for the gain reduction, that one simply does not have any scale.
Upon further investigation: In C12, the GR meter actually does adhere to the db scales on the side:
This is the max value the gr bar will go to, it seems to stop at ~ -40dBFS. Further gain reduction will not move the bar any lower.
In Cubase 14, the maximum gr the meter will display is around -15dBFS:
This has the advantage that the meter is more precise in normal gain reduction ranges (well, normal is relative, -15dbFS is a lot of gr), but of course it doesn’t match with the scale on the sides any more.
Still, I think it was done on purpose, to have a more useful range on the meter.
Hi, Felix! Thank you for your answers. Sorry for my bad English. I mean that on the gain reduction meter in the middle I have in two times more than under the GR letters. For example, under GR letters - 6 db, but on the meter it go down to the - 12 db. You can see that on the videos by the link I leaved. And this is only in Cubase 13, in Cubase 11 everything is good. That’s fact also I leaved by the link.
