Cubase 13 reopening projects changing Instruments

So I just created a new project a few days ago and saved it before heading to bed. The next day when I opened it, it sounded horrible! Now the project kind of sucks to begin with, but I intended to iron it out and make it mo bedda.

However, the instruments (Reaktor 6 and Waves Flow Motion) have lost their preset settings and it sounds totally different. I cannot figure out what’s wrong. Ive updated to the latest Cubase 13 update (13.0.20), and NI and Waves are up to date as well.

I go into the VSTs and reselect the presets I used, and it is back to normal, but then when I save it, close Cubase, then reopen Cubase, ITS RIGHT BACK TO GARBAGE again. Every time I open the project, I have to reselect the presets to get it back to the way I intended.

Is anybody else having an issue with cubase changing the presets on you? Any way to fix this? It’s VERY annoying and I am losing my motivation because of it. I searched a bit through the forum but couldn’t find anything on the matter.

Thanks in advance for your time and effort to resolve this. I appreciate you guys.

Oh yeah, I am on MacOS 13.6.3 on an M1 Max

This is usually caused by an errant MIDI Program Change message in the MIDI Part(s). The most common source are downloaded MIDI Files. These often contain Program Change messages to use what the person making it thought was an appropriate General MIDI Instrument. If you are not using GM Instruments you’ll get something else - often weird, but sometimes interesting.

The easiest way to find and delete them is to use the MIDI List Editor and set it to filter out showing the Note data so your not looking for a needle in a haystack.
