Cubase 14.0.20 Maintenance Update

For several years Cubase Pro (12/13/14.0.10) on my PC (Win 11) rarely shut down properly and on the next start I’d get the safe start option window/send the log file. It appears after this 14.0.20 update it closes down and starts fine (noticeably faster).

If this continues I will be very happy and the updates are very helpful.

please see: Cubase 14.0.20 Update Issue: Project Corruption & Save Errors - #9 by lina2000 how is this possible and when can i use the .20 version?

Did you lose the drag and drop
button setting for drag and drop in the tool modifier in preferences?

If this is a bug, please fix it.
Did you remove it for convenience in order to add some feature?

Or is there another way to set it up?

On my Cubase ArTist 14.0.20 the range detection tool doesn’t work. If I follow the description to use the range tool, nothing happens. No function. I have Win 11

I was having the same problem for the last 2 days, nothing would update then disabled my antivirus and problem solved in less than 10 minutes. After re-enabling the antivirus i added the Activation manager, media bay and Library to its exceptions

I love Cubase but this new update does not solve my main issues which I listed for months:

  • erratic zoom behaviour giving space to the left of the playbar on return
  • Arturia Minilab Remote Script never saved
  • Drum editor view unable to use ctrl click to select all like in Piano roll view
  • Lack of GM Maps on the Drum Track
  • Quick Controls UX improvements
  • Ability to add multiple automation lanes at once by alt clicking in the panel, eg pick cutoff AND frequency at once
    etc…

Great if people like score improvements and other stuff including the new audio level feature Dom is so smug about, but I think lots of valid feature requests and bugs have still not been addressed.

Just to put this into perspective: The amount of feature wishes from the customer base is much bigger than what Steinberg could implement. They always have to pick from the wealth of user input.
Sometimes user requests also contradict each other. Some people want more green, others want more yellow.
On top of that Steinberg employees even have ideas on their own, which they might chose to work on.

I like the Cubase 14 update very much. I could trace almost every single new feature or feature change to user requests here on the forum.

Hi Johnny, I disagree with the metaphor, as most of the requests I mention are not A or B type of preference, but a matter of A or nothing.
The zoom issue is an issue, the remote script is an issue, the lack of multiple lanes automation selection is an issue. Implementing all of these would not alienate anyone and would make the workflow better for many or most people.

It seems every update or new version brings questionably useful things nobody asked for (the audio level tool, the delay, the vocal chain, etc…) yet fails to address long-time requested clearly useful things.

The only positive thing that I can see out of this list of changes for 14.0.20 is Cubase seems to open and close a bit faster. The rest does zero for me. But I’m not angry nor ranting, just hoping for those fixes as I work on my music most days and they would make a difference ! Thanks.

I was really trying to convey the general situation that Steinberg is in when I wrote “sometimes”, not addressing your isssues in particular.

Of course, “your issues” are the most pressing to you. This applies to every single person. It is just that “your issues” are not necessarily the most pressing ones to everybody else.
E.g. I (personally) don’t care for a single one of the points that you listed. So if Steinberg were to address all your issues I would then come to the forum and write “there is nothing in this update for me”. (Of course I wouldn’t.)

I hope a future version will be more satisfying to you.

For sure I get it and totally agree, and the game is for Steinberg to try address as many issues as possible, with some kind of order of priorities.
Seems this time it was mostly about the Score and Pattern.
I’m sure the next update will have something in it for other users.

This is a degrade from 13.0.50 and are reported many times. It is annoying that is is not fixed.

Expecting new features is quite optimistic…

Updated. On the Hub, all my recent projects are listed.

But all my project templates are not listed. Anybody else having this problem?

EDIT:
Resolved it. For some reason, I couldn’t update via SDA because it weirdly shows all empty. So I used the .exe setup file to update instead. This is when I got the problem. I had to manually update the Mediabay by downloading the Mediabay installer, then now all my project templates are listed back in the hub.

This makes perfect sense, when you run SDA, mediabay gets automatically updated when you start SDA. The exe updater does not include mediabay so you need to update it manually too.

Audio Segment Detection is a great idea to save a lot of time. But it doesn’t work well yet, that I can actually use it in my every day editing. The segments start and end point are hit and miss about 50 percent of the time. Even in a simple drumloop. It selects just after the first transient on the beat and adds the second beat as one segment…

So hopefully Steinberg will implement this is feature better. E.g. connecting it to the hitpoints settings or to a zoom function.

I’ll be waiting for the next update.

Now, in the selected folders of media bay, when you press the back arrow, you do not go back one step, but return to the very beginning, where again you need to click the mouse a billion times to get to the same folder.
I’m writing about the media bay that is on the right, in the project window.

I’m invested in the smaller Windows on ARM camp so maybe no one else is encountering this yet. I see the announcement states 14.0.20 works with Windows on ARM.

In the complementary section you find “Cubase Artist 13 Windows on Arm Preview”:

This is what I have installed. I want to go to 14.0.20 for Windows on ARM.

I don’t find that under the complementary tab but I do find a Cubase Artist 14 under the Cubase tab. However, I do not find anywhere a “Cubase Artist 14.0.20 Windows on Arm”.

How do I get the Windows on Arm version installed?

Adding tons of bugs to include new features that are still half-baked and useless.

Steinberg, I’ve had enough of these updates.

If you need to, I’m willing to pay a mandatory maintenance fee once a year.

If you can do a proper and decent update.

You already pay for a new version every year… If you pay for something they tell you is fixed, how are you going to feel when you know your system is failing… Whose fault is that?

I’m not asking for them all to be fixed at once, but I do ask for more consistency in fixing them. Like the VST Live people do, they’re fixing things and releasing versions almost every two weeks. Do you think the segments thing is just something they added for the hell of it? No, my friends, it’s because it’s going to be included in Nuendo, which is coming out next week. I DO appreciate it being included now, by the way, but these are details that should be polished more often.

I think what you see on screen is already the correct version. In Cubase 13 the WoA version was “experimental”, with 14.0.20 it is just normal. Chosing your operating system in the SDA will let you download the version.
