People can pay 30.00 to extend Windows 10 for another year. At the end of that year they’re supposed to offer two more years of extension. No real feature updates, which is fine by me, but it will get security updates. So, I don’t plan on ditching Win 10 for another 3.5 years.
The worst debacle I ever had was when I upgraded my Windows 7 without doing a fresh reinstall of the new OS. I fought it for months because I didn’t want to install all my libraries and plugs again. Ever since that mess, I always do a fresh install on a clean hard drive. I think it’s saved me a lot of headaches.
Yes, I’m with you when it comes to upgrading to another OS - it should be a fresh install even though it takes days (plural) to get everything up and running again. I did a test run on a spare rig to check for compatabiliy issues before I update my rig in the studio later this year.
Well, good for you if you are willing to pay such a humongous fee for extended security updates. I’d expect that each security update would be brought on a silver plate with cake given the fee.
Happy to report that with the amazing tech support provided by Steinberg Canada (at least that’s where my email went), the problem is solved. I needed to update my nvidia driver, and I also updated the firmware on my Audient interface. Pretty sure it was the graphics driver that solved the problem though. Anyway, Steinberg tech support rocks!
That’s good news!
Thanks for sharing the solution - this might help others. Did you install the nvidia Studio driver or the suite?
The application is simply called “GeForce Experience”, which I assume is the suite, but the driver got updated to the Windows 11 version at the same time. Strange that the Windows 11 update didn’t warn or mention that the nvidia driver would require an update as well, but everything else worked … so lesson learned.
