Cubase 14 behaving worse than 13?

I’ve recently upgraded my CB13 to the latest 14 and I have to admit I did not experiment any of the performance improvements I had read about.
This actually didn’t surprise me much, because I know that often new upgrades are a bit… overestimated, not only by advertisers but also by us users, who perhaps get a bit carried away by emotions.

Apart from the problem of the window title bars, which have become invisible against my black desktop background, I haven’t noticed the increased speeds in starting and loading projects that many talk about (maybe because I use Windows 10 and CB14 is optimized for 11?). In fact, I have to say that CB13 tends to be faster.

Anyway, the main point is that CB13 had never suddenly crashed and closed like CB14 did today, while I was working on a project started with CB13.
Furthermore, once I reopened the project from a cpr saved a few minutes before the crash, I noticed that the plugins assigned to the various channels in the mixer, in addition to having altered graphics, respond to the click by only showing a small menu and have therefore become inaccessible.
The very same file works regularly if opened in CB13, as can be seen in the following images.

All this obviously… advises me to use CB13 for now, albeit with a little bitterness.

Maybe the reason it looks different is because you’re on the routing tab…at least that’s what your screencaps show…switch it back to inserts at the bottom so it matches the other one.

If you have a crash dump upload it and if we get lucky we might be able to see what causes the crash

Hi,

Please, attach the *.dmp file(s), so we can have a look, where did it crash.
Win: %userprofile%/Documents/Steinberg/Crash Dumps

I’m not 100%, what do you mean. But if you mean this…

… (which is not Mixer, neither MixConsole, it’s the Channel Settings window), then just switch from the Routing tab to the Inserts tab at the bottom.

I’m sorry for my huge inattention; I didn’t notice the switch from the Inserts tab to the other. Maybe also because I usually use the Inserts tab only.
I must therefore deduce that, at least as far as this aspect is concerned, the malfunction is not in the update from CB13 to 14 but in the user, whose performance is clearly worsening (which is much sadder, as the user cannot be… updated in any way  ).

As for the crash, it occurred while I was editing some mixer’s settings in the Groove Agent SE window during the project playback: the sound suddenly stopped and after a few seconds the program closed completely.
Unfortunately I don’t have the dump file any more; should other crashes occur, I will send it.

Thanks for your help and sorry again for wasting your time.

Hi,

The crash dump files are stored here:
Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).
Win: %userprofile%/Documents/Steinberg/Crash Dumps
