So iv been looking all over and I feel like iv tried everything that’s been suggested online but I can’t seem to get the crackling and popping noise to stop on playback. Im running an i7 14700k and 32GB of ram, my cpu load never gets over 20% at anytime when I’m in Cubase. I’m also using Windows 11 pro 64bit and set my computer to performance mode with no change. Iv been using my Eleven Rack as my audio interface so I decided to change it out with my little Presonus Itwo and still no change. I maxed out my buffer size well into the thousands but that didn’t change anything either… Is there anything else I can try?? I’m trying to move from Logic which was on my little MacBook Pro to something I can use on my newly built PC so I’m doing the free trial right now. I’m new to Cubase and PC.
Hi and welcome to the forum,
Try to increase the Audio Device’s Buffer Size, please.
It looks like that’s already been tried.
What do you mean by ‘performance mode’?
You say your CPU load is 20%… have you looked at the individual core usage to see if one of them is maxed out?
It might also be a good idea to run LatencyMon to check for irregularities.
Hi,
Do you experience the same with the Built-in Audio device?
So performance mode just prioritizes maximum hardware performance over energy conservation. I didn’t think to check the individual cores though. I just checked them now and cores 8, 9, and 10 get a little over 50% but I wouldn’t think that would cause my problem.
Ok so that’s interesting, I switch to the built in steinberg audio driver and used my gaming headphones. I now don’t have any crackling or popping noise at all! Now I need to figure out why both of my interfaces are causing this. I initially ruled them out as the problem since they were two different brands with different drivers causing me the exact problem..
Create your own power performance plan in the control panel. And certainly disable USB selective suspend while doing so. Also Wi-Fi has been known to cause some issues, I always disable it and run strictly ethernet. Unless you really have to of course. Also I would recommend to make sure your USB never turns off under power management tab for each USB in your device manager. If you have Nvidia GPU you’ll want to keep that updated. Use studio drivers only and you may have to go to their website to find the correct driver for your GPU (if you have Nvidia)
If built in audio is good the problem is very likely your usb power management
As Wickham sky has said
- Disable usb selective suspend
- In device manager open properties of every usb hub and in the power management tab untick the box (allow computer to turn off this device to save power)
