Cubase 14 crashing after recording MIDI data

Hi,

I encountered some issue with Cubase 14 recently since I started using VEPro 7.
My template is very functional overall, I can compose in the DAW directly with the piano roll with no issues. But the problem is when I perform a line with my keyboard (Komplete Kontrol A61): everything works for a while, then there is a point, just after I play my line (with some MIDI CC1 on the keyboard) and it records properly with no issue, where stopping the recording makes my Cubase crash instantly. It happened too many times to not be an issue so here find my logs about this. Can you help me please? I tried to delete all preferences in Cubase with no success, and also setting the midi CC lane to step mode and not ramp/curve as I first suspected that the automatic smoothness of CC lanes might be involved? (But actually it still bugs).

I’m using an iMac from 2020 (intel i7 128GB ram) with macOS Sequoia.

Just a message to share that the last Cubase version 14.0.31 did not fix the issue.

Edit: here the log file of today.

Edit 2: I noticed that the crash happened when I pressed the space bar to stop de recording, but if I stopped the recording via the REC button of my keyboard it seems fine - I mean I didn’t have a crash in 40min compared to every 5min with the space bar.

In which case, I’d suggest attaching another fresh log file from this version to help the team out and for them to have it on record… just belt-and-braces exercise.

(peoples individual machines are temperamental things…)

No, this issue was not addressed in the hot-fix .31. It’s also not mentioned in the Release Notes.

I must say that I did not get any crash for the whole morning because I never pressed the space bar to end the recording. Seems safer this way!

Getting the exact same issue here. Not every time but enough to drive me crazy throughout the day.

Hi @gla_1 Sorry that we still haven’t figured out what’s wrong here; it’s a difficult issue involving some quite old parts of our code. Coming back to your observation regarding space bar, I’d like to know, how you typically start your recording: mouse, computer keyboard or MIDI Remote - Komplete Kontrol A61? If you typically start your recording using Komplete Kontrol: do the problems occur if you start & stop your recordings not using it, but using mouse or keyboard instead?

Another question: do the crashes appear

  1. when recording from within the key editor (or any other MIDI editor) or
  2. when recording from project page or
  3. both?

Hi @nothingtoseehear , please provide a crashdump so that we can verify that it’s the same issue. Are you using MIDI Remote to start or stop recording? Do you have a Komplete Kontrol keyboard as well? Do you use Vienna Ensemble Pro as well? We’d appreciate some more details. Thanks.
