Cubase 14 Crossgrade?

Hi everyone.
This may be a silly question so apologies in advance.
I have come back to Cubase after many years, I bought Cubase 14 and love it again as it lost me from 7 and I tried something different.
There are some features in Nuendo that I would like for video and dialogue editing and maybe some game audio and VR audio work in the future.
I have mainly used Cubase for music production and mastering this far.
Money not being an issue, if I upgrade to Nuendo…

Can I still use Cubase 14 Pro after a cross grade or am I left using Nuendo or does Nuendo have everything Cubase has and a lot more.
Is there something I would miss from Cubase 14 by crossgrading?

Thanks in advance.

Nuendo is great for that.

I believe that your Cubase license is still intact from the crossgrade, but I’m not 100% certain. It doesn’t really matter though, since once you crossgrade, there is no need to use Cubase again, since Nuendo is a superset of Cubase (Nuendo has everything and more).

Yes.

No.

However, note that NEW major Cubase versions come out before their corresponding Nuendo versions, sometimes by several months (the release cadence is about 1-4 months lag time for major versions.), so any big NEW features you might want to use in a future version of Cubase, such as Cubase 15, for example, won’t show up in Nuendo until Nuendo 15 is released about 1-4 months later.

So you just have to wait and be patient until the next big Nuendo is released to get all the goodies in the next big new version of Cubase. This is not relevant right now, May 2025, since both versions are at parity, but should be noted if you absolutely MUST have the latest features when the next big version of Cubase is released. But right now both versions are at V14 so there’s no issue.

Good luck!

Hundo P, yo. Oh, sorry, I was speaking “street.” Yes sir, this is correct. The cross-grade from Cubase 14 Pro to Nuendo 14 gives you full access to both applications. In fact, as I understand it, the transaction is “siloed” in that there is no limit on what you can do with your C14P license (meaning, you could sell it). I’ve never tried that, but as the old internet adage goes, “I read it somewhere.”

Oh cool! Nice to know. :+1:

After reading conflicting opinions on that topic I found an official statement in the German forum branch:

@Thor.HOG is right about it, the Cubase license remains as is and can be updated like before. However, each license can only serve as a crossgrade basis once and will not be eligible for future crossgrades within the Steinberg realm. That’s the only limitation.

@VennoxHD You can have the best of both worlds. There are some minor differences when it comes to audio production which should not bother you since you will own both products.

Sounds like the German forum gets its share of critical posts too!!

Hmm, what’s critical about that post?
Haha, or is it the raspy “ch” in “Doch:rofl:
Rest assured, it’s a nice reply

EDIT: I apologize for my dumb, American humor. I’m stoopid like that

Thank you for your info I really appreciate it. So does that basically mean that if I want to upgrade to Nuendo 15 I will also have to upgrade Cubase 14 to 15 separately?

If so that’s fine. I Cross graded to Nuendo 14 lat night. Wow, it’s insane.

Tried the ADR function on an acapella. And it picked out the words perfectly but I can seem to get the words to show on the markers which was the only frustrating thing so far. The tool effects wow!

Do we know the audio differences that you mentions. Would be good to know.

Kindest regards

Affirmative. You’ve cross-graded to N14 from C14P. When C15P is released next year, you’ll “update” your C14P to C15P, which you be allowed to do even though you used your purchase of C14P as the “qualifier” to cross-grade to N14. So, expect $99 or so at that point. When N15 is released a few months after that, you do the same thing and update from N14 to N15 for another $99, or $119, or whatever it is. You don’t HAVE to, of course, and could just leave the C14P where it is and skip an iteration if you want, and still use it for a C14P to C16P update.

I think I’m using “update” and “upgrade” correctly - I’m still get those confused without looking it up.
