Cubase 14 dropouts

Yes I agree. I have personally built several new computers in the past for myself and friends specifically for music production, and every single one has had issues with Cubase. It really has been one of the most unstable DAWs in my experience. I’m waiting for some maintenance updates on Cubase v14 before I purchase it, if I experience issues with v14 I will seriously consider switching to a different DAW.

Same here, always have issues with Cubase. I purchased Cubase 14 because of the time limited special upgrade price plus Ive always used Cubase, even since the Atari days ! I have to admit that now I am seriously considering a switch to another DAW

Also, I went through every single one of Steinbergs recommendations for optimizing cubase on Windows for Cubase 13, had it working well (eventually)
So why all of a sudden is Cubase 14 virtually unusable ? Its completely inconsistent, sometimes it works without a glitch, then for no apparent reason, it glitches and causes audio dropouts. I just cant rely on it anymore to do the job its actually (supposed to) be designed for, its a joke !

I understand your frustrations. It’s extra frustrating when the computer is new and spec’d out. But we have to first identify that the users computer is setup and optimized correctly. Secondly we have to try and trouble shoot the issue through the process of elimination. Then we need to use some analysis tools to try and obtain more information on the issues. But as we can see from the Steinberg Cubase forum that the release of v14 has been a bit of a hot mess unfortunately.

if any of yo have done a windows update then remember that it can reset your power plan back to balanced rather than high performance so check that after a big update.

Also I had to re run the MMCSS threads fix after the latest windos 24H2 update as that also had been reset with either the update or C14 install.

I recoment everyone to do the MMCSS update n windows anyway as there seem to be no downsides.

Regarding NVidea , it’s been know for a long time NOT to install the full suite but just the driver.

I have C14 running very well here on my 9950x machine so it is possible to have a stable reliable system.

where can I find this tool ?

this doesnt exist as a service in Windows 11, it is on the system but there doesnt seem to be any way to modify the settings, maybe its only possible for windows 10 ?

ok, after a little digging I found the app on the steinberg website, nobody seemed to mention that was where it could be found. Turns out the max setting is 32 ! cant set it to any more than

that

This is very weird, I closed the app down, then reloaded it and the sliders magically became active and I could increase the setting ! Ive set it to 196 lets see if it helps

I still get dropouts, its just completely random !

@Norbury_Brook are you W11 or W10? Just curious. This is nice to hear positive reports…so you’re on a Ryzen/AMD? Would be interesting if there was any correlation between the stability issues on a Intel cpu vs AMD system …fwiw I’ve tried everything on C13, MMCSS fix, RT driver switch, steinberg power thingy etc etc and still issues remain with C13 my i9 12/24 system, with a streamlined locked down w10…but it’s workable (the intermittent freeze) whereas C14 is unstable, can’t run their own new reverb & delay plugs without totally collapsing light sessions…steinberg support have advised me there is a timing issue in their realtime engine/asioguard that they’re “trying to fix” :man_shrugging: :crossed_fingers:

Have you tried analyzing your computer with LatencyMon ? Run the test separately with no applications running, then with Cubase running and see if you can identify any differences.

Another idea is to double check your motherboard manufacturers user manual for the USB ports to identify which USB ports are connected directly to the CPU or to the Chipset. For latency reasons, you want the audio interface to be connected to a USB port that is connected directly to the CPU.

@Paul_Di_Stefano TBH I havent used the reverb or delay you mention so can’t comment on that. I have more than enough reverb and delays that do the same thing anway

I will test this out though when I’m back in the studio bext week.

I’m running Windows 11 24H2, C 14, AMD 9950x, 64GB DDR5 ram- RME UFX III-4K monitor. I have MMCSS set to maximum threads and use MIDI RT for all my midi devices. I use 2x EUCON ARTIST mix and Behringer X touch one.

All running very smooooooth over here.

yes, Ive run latency monitor, running that while playing a project in cubase caused the glitches to multiply exponentially, so even latency monitor caused problems. Ive sent the latency report to steinberg, maybe they can get to the bottom of it. Why would Cubase 13 work perfectly yet Cubase 14 is terrible ? makes no sense unless the problem is with cubase itself

Does anyone know if there are other DAW’s that have support advice that suggest crippling your hardware performance capacity as a workaround

Yes. Pro Tools.

As an RME user, do you have any issue with audio recording with the AMD? I have an older Intel PC, but given the issues with the newer Intel i9s, I am strongly considering moving toward a similarly spec’d PC to what you have in the AMD 9950x. I hear Cubase performs greatly, but I’ve read, at least with slightly older Ryzen CPUs, there were some USB issues with audio interfaces. I have an RME FF UCX II, so USB 2.0 rather than 3.0 and was looking at maybe the ASUS ProArt X870E motherboard to accommodate for that. But I’ve seen almost no reviews for this setup and a USB audio interface.

@brandondt I have had no issues with USB audio on any of my AMD machines, 3950x,5950x,7950x and now 9950x. I’ve used

Steinberg UR22-c
Steinberg AXR4U
And now RME UFX III

all worked perfectly.

Hi,

When you say clear preferences do you just mean like clicking the defaults button here?

Or do you mean deleting a config file somewhere so it generates a new one?

Can we get that link?
