Google says it’s’ easy (Windows 11) to force close Cubase with the Task Manager. But when I click “end task” nothing happens and the checking of licenses continues. Any way to do this? (I am wondering whether that license checking is interfering with a different Cubase issue I have had with sound outputs.)
The first question that comes to my mind is, why do you close Cubase via Taskmanager?
The license engine is a separate process, independent of the Cubase task.
It also didn’t close the normal way. That’s why I resorted to Task Manager. Anyway, I turned off and restarted the computer. That seems to have closed the “checking licenses” activity.
Yes, of course. The restart eliminated all process in the machine, including the license engine.
What Google doesn’t tell you is the process that keeps running if you just kill Cubase
The SteinbergLicenseEngine.exe needs to be closed as well.
What does this mean? What happens when you click on File->Close (or Exit, don’t know what the englisch UI shows here).
that’s a good point/good question. I think I was closing it by clicking on the “x” on the upper right of the box.
That does not exit Cubase, it just closes the current window.
To really exit Cubase you have to use the File Menu and the Quit or Close item (whatever that is in English).

Both “quit” and “close” are options. I infer that “quit” might refer to Cubase while “close” refers to the project.
