I’m guessing they would want my complaint to include their situation as well. It sucks to pay full price right before a deal is announced. Happened to me too before and I didn’t like it.
So you could add a grace period for sales as well and offer vouchers covering the difference in price.
But it seems that there’s no intention to change anything (except potentially removing the grace period), so I’ll leave it as that and go back to making music with version 13 which is, as you said, a great piece of software.
But I appreciate that you explained your perspective here and @Alex_Bruehl as well.
I don’t know why people have to turn a good thing into something negative, so selfish and wrapped up in themselves.
Honestly, why anyone thinks that Steinberg wants to actively scam or rip people off is just ridiculous. Just shows the state of people’s mentality nowadays, so sad.
Look at the C14 update and if the additional features are worth the money then buy it. If you’re not sure then wait out for a sale. There’s nothing else to be said on the matter is there?
This isn’t a matter of priorities; it’s a goodwill offer for customers who activated their licenses just days before a new release—that’s the sole intention.
I understand what you mean. You are talking about “A” customers (from my previous reply). But what about “B” customers? What makes them so special that they get the a free Cubase 14 update? Knowledge in regard to how to play the Steinberg minigame or just luck?
Well… I missed the September discount. I knew about it, and I knew that I wouldn’t be using the new version until I finished my urgent projects by the end of October, so there was no problem postponing the activation to take advantage of all the benefits—both the discount and the free next version. But still, I just missed the discount. I don’t feel cheated and do not blame anyone for not waiting for me to buy it at a discount. I’m happy that Cubase exists, making my work easier, and I continue to open this software with enthusiasm every day.
I really like how all the “good people” that so full-heartedly support Steinberg join the discussion… If you missed the discount, but were an already paying customer, you knew about the update politics. That you did not wait for a sale…ok, there are sales regularly for all DAWs, so that is up to you in the end. I will wait for black Friday and hope I can at least save 50 of the 100 Euros or so. That would somehow make it acceptable, although Steinberg definitely caught some bad reputation with doing this. Most people I guess here are hobby-musicians. For pros I’d say any pricing topics do not matter that much, for other people it does.
Anyways, take it as feedback or leave it.
P.S.: Not referring to Steinberg employees - I really appreciate that you share your thoughts, at least the inofficial ones.
hi, I bought my upgrade to CB13 pro on the last day of the deal, but did not even install it until about 2 weeks ago, does it count and am I in the grace period? it is based on the day you purchased it? or date of activation? cheers.
I think I have the worst luck. I bought Studio One 6 in its $400 PRO version and after a month they updated the price to $200. I felt ripped off, and even more so when I saw that I would not get the free upgrade to 7. Disappointed the Cubase 13 offer came as a light among the shadow, and yes, it’s a great promotion, I appreciate it, but it really hurts that the same thing happened to me again. Because I feel that no matter how good the Cubase 13 offer was I just feel used and cheated.
I had no rush to activate the software, so I could have waited. I think it’s unfair that you don’t announce release dates in advance. I’m sure that you had an estimated date for the new version a month and a half away. And by that I mean, it’s fairer to the users, to pay the price on offer for Cubase 13 knowing that you won’t get the new version a few weeks before its release. It’s all about transparency.
I’ve been using Cubase for over a decade and had no idea about a grace period.
If I did, I would have not activated C13 in September.
Won’t be upgrading now until…no idea.
Grace period is from October 9, 2024. Lucky me, I activated Cubase 13 on October 3, 2024 …
I will definitely not pay full price for the Cubase 14 update after 4 weeks.
This update will wait for me.
The proximity is off. As others have said, this leaves a bitter taste, as though we’ve been played for suckers. Why not wait six months or so after a sale before issuing the next full update? Happiness, then.
This is absolutely the shadiest, most underhanded way to get “more money” out of long-time customers. I have been using Cubase since 3 and although I know there is comparable software out there, some much better, I have stuck with Steinberg. I am comfortable with it, I like it, and I like the way I can use live and digital instruments with ease.
The sale ended on September 25th. I upgraded on that day because you were having problems on your side with payment processing. I was relieved to get the update in time for the sale but to find out that only a month-and-a-half you released the newest version of the software and won’t update customers who JUST paid for the upgrade is absolute garbage. Sure, you should have a 30 day grace period but this seems INTENTIONAL in my opinion. Your response, “updating to Cubase 14 isn’t required right away” is such a terrible thing to say. So it WILL be required. I’m sure it will be another $100. Thanks for nothing. This makes me want to migrate to one of the more relevant systems like Ableton. I wanted to stick with Cubase and thought I was a valued customer having used your product for years and years. I guess it’s time for me to move on. To be honest though, I feel like reporting your company to the BBB and other entities, expressing my displeasure on as many forums as I can because this is an awful business practice.
Again, thanks for nothing. That was greed…pure greed.
Apparently, no. It’s from the purchase date. I just had a chat with “Adam” in “customer service” and I use that term very liberally here. He was absolutely of no help. The response was basically, “Sorry, not sorry,”
change of software… be happy!! find another free software, are you saying than are better software out there?? well, looking for another one… that´s it!!
Those who have complained go to heaven but crying, they are ungrateful, what a shame it is for those of you who have complained! They see everything as a conspiracy.
Word!!! I´m so happy with you because your return to cubase!. Cubase is a excelent software to produce music… also Steinberg has a good promotion action for help or invit you to be a costumer… those people speaking bad don`t understand nothing , They want everything free… it is a shame…
If I had activated my license within the proper time, I would have gotten my Cubase 14 for free in addition to the great September deal… this is amazing! It would have been great to activate it, but I didn’t activate it because I wanted to try out my new c13… Nobody You can deny that you rarely see offers as attractive as 50% off less on the market… I am completely happy. People should thank you more and cry less… Thank you for your story"!! now I’m not in a rush to get the latest version, but I’ll save money and get my upgrade…I’m happy.
