Cubase 14 musical mode bug

Until now, when i drop a loop from media bay or the right side loop browser on the audio track with musical mode enabled it would sync to whatever the project tempo is. I always work in 48kHz and never had a problem. Now, it stopped working in 48kHz and it works only in 44.1kHz. Any idea how can i solve this? Some cash rebuilding or something similar?

I’m on lastest W11, latest Cubase 14 update.

Thanks!

The audio in the media bay must have some tempo infomration baked into it in order for the tempo adjustment to work. Are you unluckily simply working with audio files that don’t have such information incorporated at the moment?

Stock Cubase loops which worked before. :frowning:

Can you be more specific about what you mean by “stopped working”?

You could just read my first post.

:check_box_with_check: Done.

Does the Audio stop shrinking & stretching altogether, or does it do it incorrectly? When you say it works in 44.1k is that the sample rate of the Audio File, your Project or both? Does this occur with every loop you try or only some of them?

Do you have any older versions of Cubase installed. If so can you verify if the problem occurs there too, or does it only happen in your current version?

Can you post a screenshot of your Pool with the problematic audio so we can see its settings.

Will do everything tomorrow when i get up. Basically, any stock Cubase loop or some 3rd party loop i drag and drop to project doesn’t match the project tempo. Let’s say loop is 105bpm, and i drop it into project that is 85bpm, it won’t change it’s tempo to 85, and it used to do that before. That’s in project that’s already in 48kHz. Then, i createed a new project which is 44.1kHz, repeat the process and everything works as it should. I read somewhere on forum that it happens because of some sort of sample rate missalignment, so i tried to change sample rate to 44.1 to see if i’ll get any results, and i did.

Actually in the Pool you’d want the Audio clip to have its original Tempo, 105bpm, listed. It uses that Pool value to calculate how much it needs to stretch the Audio so it plays back at 85bpm (or whatever).

One other thing is that if your Project is at 48kHz and you import Audio that is at 44.1kHz Cubase by default will offer to convert it to the Project’s sample rate (which is what you should do in most cases). However it also has a “don’t show me this message anymore” button. I don’t know where you’d re-enable that, but I know you can.

EDIT

I asked Claude where the setting was

This is a preference setting, not a hidden reset button — it’s clearly named:

Edit > Preferences > Editing > Audio, then look for the “On Import Audio Files” section. There’s an option there (dropdown or checkbox depending on version) that controls whether Cubase shows the sample-rate/import options dialog or just silently applies the last-used settings.

Set it to “Open Options Dialog” and the sample-rate conversion prompt will come back every time you import a mismatched file.

If you’ve already imported files while it was suppressed and they came in unconverted, you’d need to fix them after the fact — either re-import, or in the Pool window, right-click the file(s) and choose Convert Files to bring them to the project’s sample rate.

First of all, you reminded me of obvious, thanks!

So, sample import option dialogue somehow stopped opening and i didn’t notice it, since you mostly don’t notice small things you do for years when they change. :frowning:

Anyway, i changed the setting and it now imports loops in sync with project tempo. Btw, it never asked me to convert stock loops to project sample rate, it would convert them automatically, and it would ask for stuff that’s not stock.
