Cubase 14 Pro_Launches but doesn't respond

Issue; Cubase 14 Pro launches, but once open it is totally unresponsive, does not respond to any mouse clicks anywhere, keyboard shortcuts etc. No response clicking anywhere on the interface. Menus etc will not respond.

What I’ve tried; Launching with preferences and third party plugins disabled. Resetting preferences. Uninstalling and reinstalling Cubase 14. Issue persists on existing projects or on a new empty project

Background; I was using Cubase yesterday, it appeared to be quite happy, no issues and no sign that anything was wrong. Nothing has been changed on the PC since. Opened to use today and nothing responds

I’d appreciate any ideas of what I can try to resolve this, I’ve tried everything I can think of and can find online. At present I can’t use Cubase at all. Many thanks.

Hi, do you reach the project window? Or do you mean it locks up on the Hub screen?

I would open event viewer in windows then launch cubase and check to see if an app or something else is throwing and error.. remove .dll for app in vst folder.. or kill process in task manger.

Was there windows update if so restore before update

Hi Phil, Cubase launches as normal, I get to the hub and can choose to open open an existing project or create a new one. Cubase will then open the project window accordingly. It’s at this point where there’s no response from anything in the interface. I can’t even click the X to close it, Cubase has to be shut from Task Manager

Thanks Mark I’ll try this

So you can get as far as the project. That’s good.

Do you see any loading progress while opening a project?

Phil, thank you very much for your reply and support in helping me in troubleshooting the issue. I am pleased to report that I’ve found what was causing the problem. My Novation Launchkey was plugged into a USB port on my PC. The USB plug has been accidentally slightly dislodged. I tried launching CUBASE with the Launchkey unplugged and everything is back to normal. I should’ve tried that in my original round of troubleshooting steps but it went under my radar. Thanks for your help gents.

That’s great to hear.

As you were able to get to the project, and the freeze didn’t happen in the Hub, I did suspect that this was going to be rather an odd case. (I mean other than the usual plugin or prefs issues). My next question was to ask about hardware. Haha.

Glad to hear it’s solved. :folded_hands:

I just faced the same problem. Cubase is starting but the Hub was not responding. IT was my Novation Launchkey. Once i disconnected the Keyboard from USB, Cubase starts fine.
