Piano music often needs finger numbers. I’ve done this easily for decades in Cubase’s prior score editor. Now, when I create a “1” using Text (and as “Music Text”) the 1 is locked to the top of the grand staff, only able to slide horizontally. Finger numbers have to be free-floating, so they can be dragged into any position surrounding the notehead. How is this now done??
There is a dedicated fingering feature in Dorico which positions the digits correctly automatically, however, the new Score Editor doesn’t support that. Text items can also be created to draw above the left hand stave (click inside the lower stave when you create them), however you still can’t move them around as precisely as would be required to mimic fingering.
You can export a Dorico file directly to continue working on the score there. The fingering popover feature is even available in the free Dorico SE, so I hope this is a viable option for you.
That and other needs in my scoring are going to require Dorico SE. I might even have to pay for the full version, we’ll see. In either case, it’ll take hours of study to get up and running with Dorico SE, which I’ve downloaded and installed.
