Cubase 14 shifts my recording early!

Isn’t this just midi jitter…how far out is it?
You could try recording 16th notes…see if it varies.

Hey guys, sorry I couldn’t post yesterday no more:) New user:)
Here is a screenshot from todays tests.
The first track is midi, just triggering Moog synth.
The second track is microphone recorded one feet from speaker - Recording shifted early around 100 samples.
The third track is Synth as external plugin set up in audio connection settings - Record shift approx. 200 samples.
The 4th track is direct audio input of the synth - Analog 1 - record shift around 510 samples.
The 5th and 6th tracks is the synth routed thru Distressor and SSL fusion - recording shifted around 500 samples.
Its a mess, every track is shifted early and the time is different.
If I adjust for record latency in settings the last 3 tracks, direct input, distressor and ssl fusion will move to the right at the correct time but the microphone is then late.
The external plugin channel is not affected by adjusting record shift in any way.
Please look at the screenshot.

Hey Grim, no it’s not midi jitter. Seems like cubase is confused with compensating for the latency. Please take a look at the screenshot I posted.
Ben

Try to work through these things one at a time.
So the previous issue with audio loopback falling earlier was solved by the 68 sample record shift yes?
You left that adjustment in place yes?

Assuming the answer is yes to those two things audio record latency is now being compensated correctly. Agree?

Now if you run your mic a foot away from speaker test with no other changes this should theoretically fall appx 1ms late (appx speed of sound in air)…if it doesn’t and having previously proved audio record compensation is correct that tells us this issue is specifically something to do with midi and that’s maybe where to look for solutions.

Hey Grim,
Yes I thought I fixed the previous issue but I just noticed that changing the buffer affects that number.
The problem is that whatever I have going in analog into cubase (mic, synths etc.) is shifted early. The shift changes with the buffer which makes me think that cubase does not compensate the latency properly.
I tried reinstalling Cubase, deleting all preferences, deleting CoreAudio preferences, running cubase in safe mode without any 3rd party plugins.
Im running out of ideas:)

I’m a windows user so no experience with core audio but if I measure an offset and correct it that works fine for every buffer setting (is different for each sample rate though)
Cubase can only correct what is reported to it (and if reporting is out what you set as offset) so if offset is changing from one buffer to another that’s presumably a problem with the audio system/driver reporting varying.

Yes, in my case offset is changed when I increase or decrease buffer.
I guess I’ll open a support ticket with steinberg.
I’ll do one more test with a different interface RME.

Thanks ,
Ben

Hey guys, so I came to a conclusion that Cubase is causing the issue. I did the same test today with my RME FF800 and same problem. Its not possible Bothe prism titan and RME drivers to be bad and not communicating properly with Cubase.
Here is a screenshot from the RME test. Latency is different. Now the direct input is shifted early and the external plugin is shited late. They are both routed to the same input 3-4.
