Cubase 14 - Studio/Audio Connections / Input Does Not Connect

Operating on Mac OS Ventura w/ Cubase 14 - Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd gen . While attempting to assign my input Device to channels, e.g. selecting the Not Connected dropdown that reveals my Scarlett, Clicking on it does not populate the Not Connected label… it just reverts to Not Connected. Ironically, I still have an active copy of Cubase 12, and it does not behave the same way, and in fact populates the Not Connected with the Scarlett Device. I worked on this for nearly 3 hours, uninstalling / reinstalling, you name it I tried it, ALL except for that one fix I cannot find. Any ideas? thanks! P.S. Output assignment to the Focusrite work fine.

Did you check the macs mic privacy settings during these 3 hours :slight_smile:

Thanks for your reply .Of course I did, everything is as it should be. Note that there does not appear to be a connection issue with the Focusrite as the device both appears in Cubase as valid and active. I’ve been mixing for a few weeks using the Focusrite as output to monitor, while the output settings in Cubase are fine. I just upgraded to Cubase 14 a month ago, and only yesterday set up for recording and discovered this anomaly with the channel Input paremeters malfunctioning and not loading the device.

I’m not sure where to post this for others, but because you’re the only person that replied, FYI: This is what I ended up doing after contacting Focusrite (trouble shooting with them pointed to Cubase 14), and while waiting for a reply from Steinberg.

I contacted an AI and explained the situation my config and problem in detail, (OS, Hardware, Software) to see if it could help.

It gave me a lot of directives, many of which I had already tried to no avail . . . However, the following is a short version of the many directives it offered me to try.

  • Navigate to Preferences > Cubase 14_64 (or simply Cubase 14).

  • Find the file named RAMPresets.xml and PortSetup.xml and move them to your Trash.

  • Relaunch Cubase. It will rebuild these files cleanly, forcing it to correctly register the Focusrite ports.

    I followed the above and it worked … I didn’t need to rename folders (however that may have been safer) but I figured, moving to Trash is non destructive and I can move the files back if necessary, so I didn’t hesitate.

  • That was the fix in a nutshell!
