Cubase 14: Surely Underwater is the feature that other DAWS will want!

Yes, DAW users from every corner of the planet will be jealous of us with our Underwater effect. Once I buy the upgrade my clients will demand that I use it on everything. What a time to be alive! Of course, I’m hoping that for V15 we can specify which ocean or river and the depth, current velocity etc. p.s. before anyone gets upset, this post is supposed to be funny.

Yes, I guess it is nothing else but a High Shelf with 96db slope.
Slope Value represent the water depht.

This tool is great for postproduction Reminds me of one of the things you can do like This, quick and fast. Its much more than just a High Shelf with 96db slope the slopes are tweaked to stimulate air, moisture, humidity dampening and absorption like SoundParticles Air … I can imagine lots of creative use esp with the new modulators.

I haven’t checked it out yet, but when I open it I shall be very disappointed if I do not see the following presets:

Orinoco Flow
Rivers Of Babylon
River Deep Mountain High
Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond
The Tide is High
Surfin’ USA

If they add Loch Lomond, I will take a trip there (just 30 miles away) and check it for accuracy!

I could do one for Loch Ness, it’s on my route to Tesco’s.

My studio is literally on the banks of the River Clyde. I could just chuck a microphone out the window.

Similarly, I could throw one into the loch just along from the Talisker Distillery. My throwing arm isn’t great though so might clip a sheep by accident.

I’m waiting for the ‘AIR’ plugin where we will get Brickwall HPF

It’s nowhere there. It’s more like simple brick wall LPF—you can compare it with brick wall LPF in Ozone’s EQ if you have it (others EQ’s have this too I’m pretty sure). The latter is more resonant at the cutoff frequency, while Underwater is smooth. Overall, it doesn’t do much more than what can be done with Frequency2.

Thats exactly the point :grinning:., I have Air and Indoor.

Are there italian Sea?

It’s not really a shelf but rather a low pass cut off filter with a particularly steep curve. Most filters/EQ plugins won’t match the steepness of that curve.

ooops! scathing! …but true. it seems this “upgrade” was like the emperors new clothes…

I honestly think the worst part is how it looks. A simple filter plug, sure. I don’t mind. But the aesthetics is really worrying. Are there seriously people at Steinberg who think the way forward is to make it look more like Kontakt?

Holy hell. I’ll take skeuomorphic wooden panels and crummy knobs over corporate pastel AI slop any day of the week.

Grammy incoming now. It’s a race to the finish line because once people hear the underwater effect everyone will be doing the same thing.

I have put Underwater on my master bus and everything sounded better. The song got lifted up like a manta gliding through the ocean.

Now that I have Underwater on all my reference mixes I can hear clearly now that the veil has gone.
It’s the first time I hear Yellow Submarine as intended. Boy, and it’s deep.

Ah, do they rent office space, for a studio? I would take that directly in the Distillery

I hope it’s not Sub Standard
