Cubase 14 "Undo mixconsole step" slow, laggy behaviour

Hello!

Mixer undo registers actions very slowly (compared with Cubase 13) and I often end up undoing not the latest changes but earlier moves made in the mix console.
This is super annoying. Is anyone else experiencing similar behavior, or is it my system?

You can look at the mix console history to check the speed. Earlier it was instant, in Cubase 14 it’s around 1 second for each move you make.

Same here.
For a while I actually thought that history wasn’t recorded at all. But you’re right, it’s just really slow. C13 was immediate. A second doesn’t sound like much. But I just realized that it is. This really slows down the workflow (and is also quite confusing).

Yeah, it’s very confusing as sometimes it does not register anything and can remove old moves.
I even had to remove stock alt+z hotkey because I kept accidentally deleting whole plug-ins instead of one little change I just made in the eq.

Dear Steinberg, please look into this for the next update. Thanks!

So it’s not just me
I’ve been deleting plugins (unintentionally) the whole afternoon with the alt+z buttons. Finally I had to take a break to find out if anyone else is experiencing the same… and here we are. Hopefully this a high priority fix and it will happen within the next day or two.

On my side I have zero mixer history. On any plugin, or regular Cubase manipulations. Anyone else getting this?

Yes, and I had to trash my preference folder in order to get it back.

Thanks a lot Johnny, for the reply!

Seems to work now, after a couple reboots. Weird. Maybe Windows Update had something to do with it, because I had tried rebooting before and it didn’t fix it. Oh well!

Advice for others: Deleting preference is a good trick. When I do, I usually backup the preferences first and then re-introduce them one by one, to make sure I don’t lose Keyboard shortcuts or other tedious things to redo.

Oh my gosh! What do you guys mean ‘delete preference folder’? Could you please be so kind to explain better and more about the steps?

I have tons of custom preferences and shortcuts, complex macros and things like that, it would be a month of work about that!

You confirm that after that the mixing history works as expected??

[forgot to mention that I am having same problems with the mixing history!]

We mean this folder here:

Don’t bother with it just yet. I did a completely clean install (fresh preferences), and the problem is here. So we’re waiting for a maintenance update, I guess.

But as a Cubase user, you need to know about preferences “thing” (unfortunately).

I had so many unexplainable problems over the years that now I just set up everything (except the custom plug-ins list) from scratch for every major release and update.
It takes some time but this approach fixed any weird problems and crashes for me almost completely.
Also, you can always save the old pref folder and put it back in if needed (of just some of the files/settings).

Version 14.0.10 - same problem. Some moves in the mixer don’t register at all (in the mixer history). Others do but with a big delay.

Steinberg please, we need to mix :frowning:

Please FIX THIS NOW !

Unfortunately it didn’t work here. I removed from all cubase versions so it was opened like a new, the delay in mixconsole history became less long but it’s still there and I can’t use it.
How I hate such bugs that make a new version useless and we have to use previous version for another half year

Does anybody find solution to this yet?

Nope, it’s just broken. Hopefully proper undo will be back to us in 14.0.20.

But since it’s Steinberg… you never know. The last time I made a bug report it took them literally 4 years to fix it.

If I were you I would not bet any money on that.

Mix Console undo history is working as intended here. C14 latest.

Sorry to be a party pooper. However if anyone cares to submit a step-by-step repro suggesting I need to follow certain steps, I’m more than willing to try.

The one caveat I have noticed with Mix Undo History is that I don’t understand why some VST’s and some VSTIs work, while others do not.

Maybe it’s best I check the user guide first to see if there is a list of functions under Mix History that that should work.

Hey!
Could you please elaborate - is it working instantly for you (and I mean instantly) or do you notice a delay when you press “undo”?
It’s easy to check by watching the mixer undo history list. Preferably in a real-working scenario - a medium-sized project with some 3rd party plugins.

Because this delay is the problem, not the undo itself.
Earlier it was instant except when adding/removing plug-ins (which is understandable). But now I have delay even when undoing my eq moves in Fabfilter Pro-q.

I hadn’t noticed any issue with undo in passing so I just gave it a try on a moderate project (35 tracks). Any changes in value within plugins or within the mixer itself are restored instantly when hitting the undo arrow. No lag at all.
I have Cubase 14 opened right next to Nuendo 13 (two machines, two screens). Their mixer undo behaviour is identical.
Curiously though, on both versions I have no visible undo history at all (in the history window), even though the undo steps are obviously there.

Cubase 14 Pro latest
Windows 11 24H2
i7 14700K
64GB DDR5

In my C14, any action/adjustment I make in Mixconsole window takes about 1-2 seconds to show up in the history panel. And if I make 2 quick moves within those seconds, it just ignores the first action, and only writes the second one. And then when I press undo command(opt+z), it undos those 2 actions I made at once. Resulting in very confusing situation. I don’t think the problem is limited to 3rd party plug ins, since this is also happening when I make simple fader change like volume, panning and such.

I tried this in Cubase 13, and it works just fine. history list updates instantly.
