Cubase 14 & Vienna Ensemble Pro

Hi there. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but when I add a new VEP instrument, the instrument selection window is blank. If I hit the edit button for any other instrument, it opens the instrument in question. But the networked VEP instrument is not connectible. I’ve opened a project where the VEP is already connected and all VEP instances work fine. Except if you hit the edit instrument button, the same thing happens- a blank window appears. See the screengrab… Any ideas?
I’m running Cubase 14 and VEPro 7
Cubase runs on Macbook Pro mid-2015 MacOS 12.7.4
VEPro runs on Mac Pro MacOS10.14.6

Thanks!

Just adding on here: this is what I am used to seeing

Works fine for me on Windows 11

Thank you @beatpete
I’ve never had a problem before. Will continue my troubleshooting quest

Any ideas from anybody on this?
Thank you

Just tested on Mac M1 with MacOS 14.7.1. The window works fine here.

I am stumped. Have tried it as VST 2 and 3 in all versions from 12 to 14. Same issues. It is definitely connected to VEP because I can play and record into previous sessions seamlessly. I just can’t do see new instances or create sessions from scratch…

I did have that issue a while back when no instances would show up. (Windows 11). Loading a template worked but even though my preloaded instances showed up, I couldn’t see any other instances. For some reason, I can’t replicate that now (lucky for me) and unfortunately I have no idea why it happened. Maybe try re-installing VEP?

Try this: Open VE Pro Preferences and close it again.

There is a good chance that you will see your unconnected instances again

Ah man- I sooooo desperately wanted this to work, but no such luck
Thank you however for the suggestion.

I have now also tried reinstalling Vienna Ensemble Pro. Still the same issue…

As usual troubleshooting there are many thing to try.

Have you tried this? in VE Pro deconnect at least one instance and try connecting it again. It might reactivate the instance list in the VE Pro connect window.

From your first post I understand, that your working instances are coupled i.e. they connect automatically to VE Pro. Is that correct? if so decouple all (right top second button in the connection window) , save as new project and close the project and open it again and manually connect hopefully in a none empty instance list.

I think it is a VE Pro issue as the same happens in Dorico regularly when you work in it for a number of hours or you put your Mac to sleep and wake it again while in Dorico When you want to connect an additional free instance the list is empty but the opening and closing of the VE Pro preferences solves the issue there.

Hi Mavros

I have tried this as well. It seems like Vienna Ensemble Pro is working perfectly, except there is no visual display in the Cubase edit window. All instances are connected and work perfectly- you just can’t do anything that requires you to open the edit window on Cubase side because it remains blank.

For anyone struggling with the same thing down the line, I managed to solve it. It had to do with the iOS update. I simply uninstalled Vienna Ensemble Pro (not the server) and reinstalled it all. Runs smoothly now :+1:
