Cubase 15.0.21 Audio Export Super Loud

It seems that since I have updated to Cubase 15.0.21, the master volume in the project I am working on has no bearing on the volume of the audio export, either in the “Quick Export” mode or in the “Audio Mixdown” mode. Essentially, the export volume is super loud, no matter what I do, in terms of LUFS or volume in the project. What am I missing here? Is there an option for a certain default LUFS setting or something like that in the export mode? When I was using Cubase 15 prior to the maintenance update, I didn’t have this problem at all, so I could definitely use some assistance here. Thanks!

Reimport the mixdown into Cubase. Let it play back on solo. Problem gone? Then it was just a volume setting issue with the app that you used for playback.

Thanks… I will give it a shot!

Hey Johnny… Thank you for the suggestion. As a result of your advice, I have realized that iTunes on my MacBook Pro is freaking out. The volumes of the tracks are as they should be when I just play them from the desktop, but the new mixdowns I import into iTunes are at least twice as loud as the previous mixdowns I had imported some time ago. You have helped me realize that this is NOT a Cubase problem at all! Many thanks!

A quick follow-up… After some research, I found that Apple Music (formerly iTunes) on my Mac has a default feature called Sound Check under Playback menu in Settings. I turned it off to see if it is what was causing some WAV files to be about twice as loud as others, and I discovered that it was indeed Sound Check that was the problem. It is ironic, as that feature of Apple Music was supposedly designed to equalize the volume of tracks that have been mastered at different loudnesses, but in my case it caused various original music tracks that had the same LUFS readings in Cubase (which I exported and then loaded into Apple Music) to vary in a great degree from one another. So…having turned the Sound Check feature of Apple Music off, all is well again. I should have known it was not Cubase, as I have been using it for decades, but you live and learn, eh?
