Cubase 15.0.21 freezes when enabling VST2 plug-in support on Windows 11 Pro 25H2

Cubase version: Cubase Pro 15.0.21
Operating system: Windows 11 Pro 25H2
Audio interface / driver: UAD Apollo Twin X USB (latest UAD drivers installed)

Since updating to Cubase 15.0.21 I am experiencing consistent freezes when enabling support for VST2 plug-ins.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch Cubase 15.0.21.

  2. Go to Studio > VST Plug-in Manager (or the section where VST2 support is enabled).

  3. Enable support for VST2 plug-ins (or enable the VST2 plug-in folder/path).

  4. Cubase immediately becomes unresponsive.

Actual result:

  • Cubase completely freezes as soon as VST2 support is enabled.d the Cubase process in order to close it.

Expected result:

  • Cubase should allow enabling VST2 support without freezing and should continue to run normally.

Additional information:

  • This behavior did not occur before updating to version 15.0.21.

  • System: Windows 11 Pro 25H2 with UAD Apollo Twin X USB as main audio interface.

  • It would be helpful if other users on Cubase 15.0.21 and Windows 11 Pro 25H2 could check whether they can reproduce this.

  • I can provide additional system information or crash dump files if needed.

Please note that VST 2 is no longer officially supported. You can still load VST 2 plug-ins (except on native Apple Silicon) by enabling the VST 2 scanner in the VST Plug-in Manager. However, we’re not able to provide support for any issues related to VST 2 plug-ins.

Please post a crash dump here and we can have a look. It might be a VST2 plugin causing the crash once it’s enabled.
