It’s been working great for me lately, but in the past I had to do that fix many times. Plenty examples of me badmouthing it on the forums too. Haven’t had a single issue with it since 15 dropped that I can recall. I keep that page bookmarked though
If you’re gonna be a jerk about it, then sorry I tried. Have fun with Claude and terminal
No preview sound from Tonalic (ARA) in Cubase 15 Right Zone (Indicator reacts, but no audio)
Hello everyone,
I recently started using Celemony’s new plugin “Tonalic” (v1.0.2) in Cubase Pro 15.0.30 (macOS / Mac Studio), and I’m experiencing a strange issue with the right-zone integration.
I would like to know if anyone else has encountered this issue or knows a workaround.
[The Issue]
When I open Tonalic in the Cubase right-zone browser and try to audition phrases, there is absolutely no preview sound coming from my monitors/headphones.
However, if you look at the “Preview” volume knob at the very bottom of the Tonalic window, the outer ring of the knob lights up in orange and reacts in real-time to the playback. This visually indicates that the audio is being processed internally.
If I drag and drop the phrase directly into the Cubase timeline, the audio suddenly plays back perfectly fine on the track.
It seems the plugin engine is generating sound, but the preview audio from the right-zone browser isn’t being routed to the Cubase mixer/output bus properly.
[Troubleshooting Already Done]
To rule out basic routing mistakes, I have already verified the following:
An active Audio Track is created and selected in the project.
This is not a Control Room or main output issue (Cubase’s native MediaBay previews play back perfectly).
This is not a simple mute/volume issue inside Tonalic (as the preview indicator ring lights up).
The Active Tempo Track is enabled.
Could this be a specific ARA 2 routing bug in Cubase 15’s right zone? Or is there a hidden setting I need to enable for right-zone previews to work with this plugin?
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Are you running “64 Bit float” for “Processing Precision”? Please check “Menu / Studio / Studio Setup…” → Audio System → Advanced Option → Processing Precision. Can you please try “32 bit float”?
Is Preview working for you now?
Thank you so much for your help!
Changing the Processing Precision to 32-bit float worked perfectly, and the preview sound is now playing without any issues.
I really appreciate your quick and accurate advice!
I think that vouchers for Tonalic are for Cubase Pro 15 and Artist 15 owners only. I reckon this has something to do with Tonalic being a third party plugin/license. Once the voucher is redeemed and the software is downloaded from Melodyne it’s out of Steinberg’s hands.
If you don’t see a voucher in your MySteinberg account I’m afraid that’s the way it is.
However, that’s just my educated guess, I might still be wrong about it.
If you also have a certain version/tier of Melodyne, you can get Tonalic essentials. I dont remember which though, but I have studio which it did work with.
No I probably couldn’t because I dont use MAC.. you probably could have just said MAC from the beginning. I wanted to see if this was effecting win 11 user. We look for forum support not condescending response you wont go far..
Thanks @Johnny_Moneto, yes, I meant “Celemony”. I got it mixed up indeed. Quite the tongue twister “Celemony Melodyne”.
Yes, I think it’s worth a try. The patterns are nicely tracked and sound really good. Even if you are a guitar player yourself it might be useful to outline the harmonic structure of a song if you prefer guitar patterns. But that’s a question of personal workflow, of course.
The Essential version is very limited with regard to instruments and edit functions. You’d need to go for the upper tiers to have more instruments or to be able get your hands on Tonalic’s edit functions.
It’s also important to know that Tonalic is based on a subscription model so you got to decide for yourself if it is worth it or not. BTW, the essential version does not require a subscription.
About Tonalic I think you guys have already noticed the amount of data it can store on your drive.
If you have a concern about filling that much your internal drive, there’s a way to move to another drive using symlink.
Here’s the way to have it in Windows:
Move to ext. drive (like :D) inside a “TonalicData” folder you will create:
C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\com.celemony.tonalic ( xxxx is you as user)
move just the folder “com.celemony.tonalic” not the entire directory to the ext. drive
so you will have: D:\TonalicData\com.celemony.tonalic folder
Very good point, @Puli !
The Essentials content is about 2.5 GB - moving it onto another disc might indeed be a good idea for those who have limited space Thanks
Oh, good to know! I only did a test run with the Essentials version and my folder contains < 2.5 GB at the moment. I will relocate it like you suggested just to be on the safe side.
Thanks for the heads up!
