Cubase 15 and Dorico

25 years I’ve been a Logic user and an Apple certified Logic trainer. However, the product has dwindled. The new Cubase sounds impressive and I wondered what the state of Dorico integration was in the new version. Release notes mention the improved score editor, but without details.

Any experts it there who can tell me? Might be enough to make me jump ship…

No integration of the Cubase and Dorico apps yet. I’m hoping this will be a Dorico 7 enhancement as (if dev history stays consistent) it will most likely focus on playback enhancements. Cubase already sends sync code. Dorico just has to recognize and use it.

Personally, I’m hoping at some point for direct, real-time Dorico stave to Cubase track MIDI event sync as well. That would be soooooo cool and useful.

Well, the new revised Expression Maps functionality in Cubase 15 shows that the teams of Cubase (and Dorico) are making decisive steps forward to develop the integration. This will probably give the possibility to develop further the Import Dorico Project functionality (which was implemented in Cubase 14).

(for example see this video, for the EM drag and drop [edit]hidden(unofficial)[end edit] functionality, which shows that the compatibility between the two apps is becoming bigger and bigger)

Other improvements are to be found in the Manual:

I use both Logic (less and less) and Cubase (quite exclusively), and I have to say that Cubase is really a beast of a DAW. I love it! The midi editing capabilities are astounding deep, and I am already using the Score Editor extensively together with the Key Editor). Very exited for the further development.

It isn’t unofficial in any way. It is explained in the manual.
