Cubase 15 changes Midi Channels for Omnisphere and Kontakt

Hi, I use Omnisphere and Kontakt as a RACK instrument. Lately, Cubase changes the midi channels of the instruments to Channel 1 without me making the changes. Especially when I select all tracks to copy etc.

Anyone else facing this issue? It still happens even after yesterday’s update.

Hi,

Do you know, when this happened? Can you replicate it?

Do you have the latest Cubase 15.0.10 installed?

Hi Martin, sorry for the late reply. I was away. Anyway, I will try and replicate it. It happened just now when I selected all of my 8 midi channels for Omnisphere, but when I tried replicating it again it didn’t happen.

Hi Martin,

I managed to catch it. In the GIF below, you can see in the beginning all midi channels (1-8) are correctly pointing at each respective instrument in Omnisphere. But after I selected a few tracks to solo, it changed all midi channels only pointing to channel 1.

I am certain your problem exists but I can’t see anything on that GIF.

I assume, the movie clip was readable, before you converted to GIF with the image size you have chosen, @riotpopmusic - or is this how your mobile stored the file?

Me neither.
Trying to record your screen using your phone is generally a bad idea. There are plenty of screen capture/recording tools out there that produces a much more legible result. Windows 11 comes with the Snipping Tool. I personally use ScreenToGif on Windows 10.

Ok, will do it soon. Thanks!

Yeah it was  . but the size limit fot GIF is is 4MB and I couldn’t link the video here

following as this is happening to me all over right now. I currently add the midi channel number to the track name because its the only way I can remember at a glance when something inevitably goes wrong

Hi yes, me too. I try to record with OBS, but whenever I try to repeat the issue it doesn’t happen when I need it to.

I got kind of close to intentionally replicating the issue on my system when I had any number of tracks selected and pressed alt+shift. I am doing alt+shift+click all the time because this is how I set my cursor location.

It would change midi channels, even without clicking or hovering over midi channel on the track, etc. all over the place, not just to channel 1.

That being said, I’m still not confident I’ve drilled down exactly what the issue is and how many variables are truly in play. But for reference, I’m also mainly using midi tracks connected to rack instruments. This is happening with Opus, SINE, and Kontakt 7 for me.

Hi,

By default, Alt+Shift is Key Command for the Q-Link. So if you hold Alt+Shift and then you set the Channel to 1, all the selected tracks channel’s will be set to 1.

I’m thinking, how could the set the Channel to 1 could be done without your knowledge (in background). I can’t come to any idea.

I use the alt+shift+click to drag midi to other parts of the song as a ghost copy. This is when it usually happens. Or is there another way for me to do that?

Hi,

You are talking about the Shared Copies (Ctrl/Cmd + K), set the number of repeats and enable the Shared Copies option in the window.

You can also use the Repeat function:

I can imagine, that the Alt + Shift + drag option is more comfortable for you. I’m just mentioning the Repeat function, as you asked for another way.

That’s cool! I’ll try it out thanks!

yes, I also used to be able to select 4 audio tracks or device tracks in the mixer, change a send manually in the text box, then press alt+shift+enter, and all the tracks would change their send level. now, only one track changes. however, if I hold alt+shift and drag the send level with my mouse, all the track send levels change as expected. I’m wondering if something has changed in general with the intended behavior of alt & shift keys?

here’s a screenshot of what I’ve had to start doing for the meantime. Even with these little notes I leave myself, the midi channels change several times throughout a working session and makes it very hard to get any work done. I have a much larger project coming up with way more tracks and I really don’t want to have to do this again.

this NEVER used to happen to me and the problem I’m facing is that I’m also using the new Windows MIDI service which is not entirely bug-proof either. So, I can’t really tell if that has anything to do with anything.

Hey,

it seems that there are some issues with MIDI tracks and Q-Link. I’ve encountered several problems when muting and unmuting multiple MIDI tracks in Q-Link mode—suddenly, all MIDI channels of the selected tracks were reset to channel 1. I’m working with a fairly large template, so this kind of behavior can cost quite a bit of time to fix.

I tried to replicate the issue in Cubase 14, but couldn’t find any bugs there. Also, setting up multiple send levels by entering values doesn’t seem to work anymore—it only works using the mouse wheel.

I hope this will be fixed soon.

I get that too. Let’s hope there’s a fix soon.

Hi,

This is a known and already reported issue. Please, don’t hijack the thread with another topic.
