Cubase 15 Chord Pads Crashing

I’m running Cubase Pro 15.0.10 on an M1 based MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma 14.8.3). Cubase is crashing when using Chord Pads, when I press certain notes on a MIDI controller. Any notes that are out of the range of the chord pads causes the crash, such as C8 when the pads range from C0-C6.

I tried setting the range higher to C-2 to C8, and the crash still occurs. Strangely, it also happens with notes that should be in the original C0-C6 range, such as E5. However, I don’t think any chords were assigned to the pad for E5.

I’m on grid view with a 4 x 16 pad grid, in case that matters.

It happens with two different MIDI controllers. Both MIDI controllers successfully work with the chord pads otherwise, when triggering pads that have chords assigned to them.

Hi,

Attach the crash *.ips file, please.

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately, we haven’t found a way to replicate your issue.

Would you mind sharing an example project with the given settings and providing information on which MIDI Note exactly you send, please?

Thank you. I DM’d a project file.

Hi,

Thank you for the project.

As you can see on the screenshot, I opened it, showed the ChordPads in the LowerZone and played MIDI Note G5.

It doesn’t crash on my side.

I think this setting triggers the issue. In the Chord Pads Remote Settings I had Pads Remote Range End set to C6. It crashes when pressing E5 or above with this setting.

Then I changed Pads Remote Range End to be D#5, which appears to be the actual upper limit of the 4x16 pad grid. With this setting of D#5 as the upper limit, it no longer crashes when pressing a note E5 or above.

Can you try setting your upper limit to C6 and see if it is reproduced with that setting?

Hi @take3 ,

Thank you for the details. You are right, this is the parameter, which cases the crash. Now, I can replicate it on my side every time too.

I have updated the report for Steinberg.

Great! Thank you for looking into it.

Hi,

This has been fixed in Cubase 15.0.30 maintenance update.

Thank you!
