Cubase 15 compatibility

I purchased and downloaded Cubase Pro 15 upgrade from Cubase Pro 14. If I create a new project in 15 and save and close it, next time I open it, it opens in Cubase 14. Do I have to uninstall Cubase 14 or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Are you on PC or on Mac. How do you open the project. Double click on the file in the explorer or from the cubase hub ?

Right click on the project file - open with. You can choose open always with Cubase 15.

^ which can be found in C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 15\Cubase15.exe

If I right click, Cubase 15 is not an option. I am using windows 10

It works if I open it through the hub.

  1. Right click on one of your Cubase project’s .cpr files.
  2. In the right click context menu, go to “Open With” / “Choose Another App”
  3. Check the “Always use this app to open .cpr files” checkbox
  4. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 15\Cubase15.exe

Now your Cubase .cpr files will open with Cubase15.exe by default. You need to do this procedure with every new version of Cubase that you install on your computer.

I presume that I would need to tick the “always use this app” box as well. Then my Cubase 14 things will always open with Cubase 15.

I think I am best using the hub for now. (I am doing this on my laptop and my desktop is a bit experimental at present due to being adapted for my Yamaha 01/X. I am reluctant to upgrade anything due to potential instability so I use Cubase 14 on that machine.

Thanks for all your help

That’s correct. I forgot to add that. I will amend my previous post. You can redo the procedure whenever you want and set it to whichever version of Cubase that you want as it’s not permanent.
