Cubase 15 crashing again

Look! ive been insanely patient and nice about my issues over the past few months and i thank you all for your suggestions and responses but there is a point now where im just getting p*ssed off.

Ive tried everything. I’ve uninstalled all of my libraries updated all my drivers uninstalled Cubase re-installed everything and STILL it freezes crashes and instantly vanishes from my screen.

This is INSANELY frustrating because i can barely get any work done on projects because im constantly rebooting just for it to do the same thing again.

Ive unistalled Kontakt re-installed it re-installed all of my libraries (what a massive fart on that was) updated my graphics drivers made sure everything is up to date and STILL this bloody thing keeps freezing and dying on me.

Im really getting at the end of my rope here.

What the hell is going on?

So friggin angry here.

DMP file:

Cubase 15.0.6 64bit2025.12.30 18.49.59.929.dmp (1.2 MB)

:frowning:

The crash was caused by Ohmicide_vstwin_x64.dll, probably a VST2 plugin. As VST2 is no longer officially supported, using these plugins can be risky.

According to the file you uploaded, this crash was caused by the plugin Ohmicide. This is also displayed on the gray screen that pops up when Cubase is launched after a crash. Cubase was not the culprit here, apparently.

The troubleshooting steps you mentioned are not really good for dealing with crashes. Reinstalling can help when a component was installed incorrectly, but first steps for finding a crash’s cause is to disable plugins, or reset user prefs. Reinstall does not touch these things.

Hi Martin.

But what about the other times when im not using Ohmicide and the same thing happens. Would having the plugin even sitting dormant in my plugin folder create such a crash even though im not using it?

Previous crashes with the exact same outcome pointed to Kontakt. So now its Ohmicide? ive had it for years without any issue but saying that it did crash JUST as i opened up an instance of the plugin.

Aww man. Im so sorry im getting bummed out its so frustrating because it didnt save a backup so i lost work :frowning:

Have you tested in Safe Mode?

Hi Steve.

Yeah it did crash the moment i opened up an instance of Ohmicide but the other times ive had the exact same freezes and crashes i wasn’t using Ohmicide.

I reset all the the user preferences.

Its just frustrating this keeps happening. I dont remember having this issue with previous versions.

First thing im gonna do is remove ohmicide. Sad because its a killer distortion plugin.

I hear you. Troubleshooting can be an art

good luck

Hi Adam,

if you don’t use a certain plugin in a project, it’s just data on your disk and doesn’t cause any issues. Do you still use several VST2 plugins and are these present in projects that crashed? It might be possible that a VST2 plugin destabilizes the application but the actual crash happens at a different location. Thus, I’d check whether projects that only use VST3 plugins run more stable.

As far as I can tell, the VST2 API is no longer developed and doesn’t get any bug fixes either. Therefore, the code ages compared to those of Cubase and other VST hosts which probably introduces more and more inconsistencies over time. In these cases it’s safer to use older Cubase versions when relying on older plugins.

Ive just checked my VST plugin list and there is quite a chunk of VST 2.4 mainly un-purchased UA plugins that auto installed when i installed my Apollo twin and a plugin thats 1.0 lol ( restream standalone) I use that one for OBS when im screen recording a project.

There are a couple of instruments too.

I will have to go back to other projects that ive had crash and see what plugins i was using at the time but yeah its possible they may have been VST2 or 2.4

I would not second this claim. We had enough reports of demo plugins injecting noise into the project, some people indicated the plugins were not used the the project.

Omhicide is a legacy plugin, abandoned by the developer so do not expect Steinberg to support it. Dump VST2 if you can.

There is a new version made for this day and age.

If you have used Kontakt 7 I am sympathetic to your frustrations. since version 7.5 it became incredible unstable in Cubase 12-15. Sometimes crashing when closing, sometimes crashing when loading. After I switched to Kontakt 8 thankfully this problem has been minimal with kontakt - once I got to save a project with the latest Kontakt 8 this plugin most of the time do behave in stable and workable manner.

That would be pretty strange. If a project doesn’t load a plugin, the code can’t be executed, except there’s some hidden application/service that loads it on startup. However, if the plugin is present in a project but deactivated there, it might still do crazy stuff.

Yeah i just saw the new version of Ohmicide and contacted them about some kind of deal where i dont have to re-buy it just because its vst3 now

Kontakt has been a constant mention when discussing crashes. So i guess i need to update to 8. No wonder companys are now using their own sample engine these days and completely abandoning Kontakt and its not like NI are known for replying so i cant even have a go at them lol

I’m not sure updating to Kontakt 8 would help. I’m on Kontakt 7 and did have stability woes, but I managed to get things stable by (if I remember rightly) deleting the user settings at

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Native Instruments

I have to re-find the plugin samples in old projects, but I have not had a crash in Kontakt for a while.

Yeah im currently on 7 too. I remember it running absolutely flawlessly when i first purchased it. Its only the last few months it has been a pain in the arse and at the centre of my DMP files Grr! lol

Just remember that it’s user settings files that are likely culprits so you don’t spend time reinstalling gobs of sample content

Oh, darn. That’s disappointing. I would have assumed that cubase had much better error trapping. That plug-in is definitely useful.

I’m glad I haven’t upgraded yet, reading some of these posts makes me want to wait.

Its a killer plugin for sure.

I love making argent metal kinda Mick Gordon Doom music which uses insane amounts of crazy distortion and Ohmicide is a boss at delivering that and even Mick himself uses it aswell as many in the same circles.

Sad i cant safely use it anymore :frowning: without buying it again in vst3 version.

most certainly there was issues loading up libraries.. so that fix might very well be worth a try for @AdamMassacre too
