As you can see I have 5 bars of silence before the bass actually begins.
Let’s say I want to remove the 4 first bars of silence; if I select the first 4 bars as a “range” and then perform Edit → Range → Delete Time, then it performs exactly as wanted, actually deleting the first 4 bars of silence.
However, if I select the sound itself in the Editor (as an Event as I understand), as preview in the screenshot, and then perform Edit → Delete, then 4 bars + 1/4 is deleted:
I second @Nico5’s reply. The amber markers make me think you’re editing warp markers. Try opening the editor in a separate window (rather than docked below). Check that you’re on the “Definition” option on the left (rather than Audio Warp).
The action you took of deleting time is actually deleting time for all tracks in the project, which happened to delete the event. You could also edit the event directly in the project window using the scissor tool to make the cut at bar 5 and then select the initial piece and hit the delete key. [And there are even more ways to approach this! Such is the way of Cubase!]
Indeed, editing in the “Definition” instead of “Audiowarp” was the solution. Kelp explanation seems pretty obvious once you think of it but I definitely not thought of that while editing.
