Firstly, I am a novice. After weeks of research and numerous attempts, I cannot complete the master phase of my project.

I completed a project that - with read automation and velocity adjustments - pretty good and balanced. But it needs the mastering touch

I entered the the Master phase and after 2 weeks am lost in Neverland.

At first, my research led me to:Cubase 7 102: SongwritersMusicians Toolbox - 44. Adding Mastering Plug-ins - YouTube

Disregarding the read automation/ velocity, I set the Set Stereo Out to 0, added /adjusted tracks via dynamics, etc., and ended in disaster. More research and found Quick Link but again, read automation got in way.

Is there a way to go back to original project, globally adjust gains, volume to optimal without losing my read automation settings, then go thru master, add the dynamics, some reverb etc. and come out with a project that sounds good and balanced well?

Depends on what you’ve done to the project. Cubase keeps a history that should allow you to go back, assuming all your tracks are still in the media pool.

If you ended in “disaster”, seems likely you’ve done more than “the mastering touch”.

Use the “Freeze” funksjon to get permanent audio from tracks, plugins or what ever you need. It reduces the CPU load and other things. Read more about the function in the manual!
And btw:
Lower your stereo output to get more headroom, you don’t need to set it to 0dB.
