Cubase 15 randomly freezing while closing VST plugin window

It happens quite often now in Cubase 15. After some time working on the project Cubase gets suddenly and randomly frozen while closing the window with VST Instrument. It is not the case of some specific instrument, as it happened to me with Falcon, Arturia plugins, Dawesome, … It closes the GUI of the plugin, however there remains white window and the only solution is the Task manager and kill the application.

Do not have this problem in C14.

I’m on Win11.

Also having a GUI freeze type issue. I’ve got it narrowed down to:

Berlin Studio Reverb 1.4

Window 11

Cubase Pro 14 and 15

Berlin Studio Standard hasn’t updated in a year, so I’m not sure what has changed. When I remove it from the VST folder there are no issues. With it in the folder, a session can get stuck on the “midi ports not connected window” or when I open say Frequency 2, it freezes and Task Manager shows no “Not responding”. CPU usage is low at 5% etc. Sometimes Frequency will finally load and then when I close the plugin it hangs again for 10 minutes-ish or indefinitely.

I’ve:

-Reinstalled all VST plugins straight from the latest versions on websites and Nvidia Studio drivers(using custom clean install, no overlays)

-Cleared the GPU Open GL Cache

-The session is fine without the plugin and also fine in safe mode

I’ve got some more testing to do, but just wanted to put the GUI freeze issue out there. It may have nothing to do with Cubase itself. But I’ve not had an issue like this before

Thanks,

This is definitely happening ,in my case it is All of my Arturia plugs both Instruments and Efx

and Output Movement ,so far. Haven’t had this problem with Falcon 2026 or UAD plugs ,but some of my Izotope plugs are also Blacklisted.. This is Definitely a Major issue , hopefully this can be resolved sooner, rather than later . It seems Steinburg is trying to push developers to update there plugins ,which is great ,but there needs to be better communication on this ,so the end-users are not sitting here with thousands of dollars invested only to be trouble shooting at this level ,in this day and age… just my 2cents ..

Hi, sort of similar issue here.

Arturia plugins are one of them, but also SSL’s, Pulsar Audio, Sonible etc.

Surprisingly, Flux plugins finally became quite usable after the latest updates (ultimate bundle here, but the GUIs opened and closed for several to a dozen seconds - that was my case).
Now they only have minor lags, while many other plugins started to lag/freeze Cubase temporarily when closing the GUI.

PC Win 11, Ryzen 9 5900X, 64GB RAM, RX 6600 GPU

So far, neither the typical AMD Adrenalin settings nor Driver-only settings have contributed anything to the issue.

Same thing here, all Arturia Plugins Freeze while closing them . Exemple: Tape Mello or Jun-6 Chorus (with empty new session on one track it work , no freezing ) . Some other plugins UI not reacting to mouse click with bigger sessions.

Stability problems with this last Cubase With effects plugins, opening and closing very slowly and sometimes crashes and cubases get closed ! Big problem with vst GUI :cry:

Windows 11

While I can’t reproduce this reliably, sometimes Cubase 15 just decides to crash after closing plugin windows or even closing its hub. None of those issues happened with 14.

@ZennouhiProd , @BrunoDSL
Please post your crash reports in this topic.

I got Waves plugins freezing Cubase. I have to reboot the computer in order to fix the issue. And Kontakt is very slow to close. Áround 10-15 seconds. Very irritating.

This happened to me again. Not even restarting Cubase makes it possible to use again because nothing is clickable. I’ll do a restart now, probably losing my midi mappings again which is the other problem I’m currently dealing with.

No crash dump file yet. I just used bass rider from waves and when it opened everything became unclickable. I was able to close everything but not work with the project. Very unfortunate. Hopefully, this will be solved in the next update.

Strange, I have a very similar system and no unusual issues with Arturia plugins on C15.

Windows 10.0.26100 and Nvidia 3060TI.

This is what happened to me and after some research I reinstalled Windows :frowning: .

So by the looks of things the common demeanour is Windows, so that leads me to believe that you guys go through all the recommended OS/DAW tweaks recommended on the great internet!! etc…, but be weary, some tweaks seem to break Windows, 2 main culprits that I’ve found are getting rid on Microsoft Edge in any capacity …this effects the mswebview2.exe - makes it unstable for some reason, so any plugin that needs an internet connection/GUI interaction using this silly protocol goes poof!!.. The other main culprit is if you fiddle with the Smart app Control - i.e switch it off (do not do this) in windows settings (should be set to Evaluation mode), Windows struggles with installations of any software properly as it interferes with account permissions, whether its an Admin account or not etc..

Hope this helps.

After upgrading Nvidia drivers to the last one, it work (i’m using the studio driver)

This is happening to me (Cubase 15 freezing) a lot and randomly with different newly purchased plug-ins as inserts. Very frustrating :frowning:

it’s still a thing here with Waves plugins for example.

Waves have a bad habit of crashing when opening the UI… not that often but often enough to be annoying.

The first time I encountered the problem though was with Cubase 15. I had no problem with that in the previous Cubase versions. Hopefully, either waves or Steinberg can fix this.
