Cubase 15 templates are loading without tracks

Hey folks. Another Cubase 15 issue has popped up. I’ve created my template for a new project in C15 and saved it as a template to use on future cues. Unfortunately, when I create a project from that template, it loads without any of the tracks in it. The template file is showing in the Finder as it’s full bloated “I have way too many tracks” file size, but when it creates the project it’s only got a stereo output.

If I copy the saved template in the Cubase 14 Project Templates folder and create a project in C14 from that, everything works as it should. The downside to that is that it strips the negative track delay settings out of the Expression Maps, which makes sense if Cubase 14 can’t read them, but if I create a project in C15 with the track delay settings, then open it in C14, when I go back to C15 the track delays need to be reloaded. A drag, but It can be worked around.

Anyone else having a similar empty template issue?

Hi, @GreenWire

Never had a problem with templates before, but I admit that I neither use the Track Delay setting, nor expression maps. But could you post the template here, so we could be able to test it ?

Hey Cubic, thanks for the reply. Here’s a link to my template.

Thanks. While downloading it, first observation : the file is nearing 2 Gb and this is not normal for a template project, which should have no data in it.

I’ll keep you informed about further tests.

Yeah, the full template with everything loaded is 2.15 GB, and so are the files created from it.

OK, some results…

Not exactly. See the screenshot of your project below, without any fiddling :

I think that you actually have a Visibility setting issue. At a point, I went to the MixConsole, which was completely empty. In the Visibility panel of its left areea, all the “invisible” channels were listed, but none of them were ticked. So, I ticked some of them and got this, after returning in the arrange page :

So, I would suggest, in C15, to carefully check the visibility settings of your project and try again to save it as a template from there.

Why no channels have their visibility setting ticked ? Difficult to say but, and I don’t know if it’s related : at first opening, I got this flood of missing plug-ins warnings and several added about missing files also. Maybe there is a dependencies location added issue :

Interesting. On my system, projects created from that template file only have the two tracks, none of my visibility configurations are there, and the saved project file size is 117 KB. But it looks to be creating it correctly on your system, minus the missing plugins.

Not here…

Have you updated Mediabay to the latest version?

No, I must’ve missed that when I downloaded 15. I’ll try tha in the morning, thanks for the suggestion.

So I looked in my Download Assistant, and couldn’t find the MediaBay in there at all, which is a little weird, and would explain why I didn’t update it when updating to C15. I did a manual reinstall, and now I’m able to successfully create from my template, which is great. Thanks for the suggestion!

When you install the SDA, it automatically installs the SAM, Library Manager and Media Bay.

Does it not also update the Media Bay every time the SDA is opened? Assuming there is an update, of course.

It would certainly make sense to do so but maybe someone else can confirm if that’s the case.
