I have over 100 individual piano performance MIDI tracks that I am importing into a Cubase project one by one. In other words, I create one project and then import one MIDI file, export it as audio, then clear the MIDI track and import the next MIDI file. I have the correct MIDI file import settings in preferences to honour the MIDI file tempo on import. However, the tempo track (not the overall project tempo) does not clear when I import new MIDI. Some of the pieces have tempo changes in the body of the piece or at then end, but when I import one of these files and then import the next MIDI file, the tempo track from the previous MIDI persists even though the project tempo is honoured. My questions - is this expected behaviour, is there a way to tell Cubase to reset the tempo track automatically, and, could this be a fault of the MIDI file itself? The same thing happens with MIDI files from Logic, Digital Performer, Cubase, etc. Any advice or help appreciated!
Hi,
You can create a new project, while importing a MIDI file.
Or set the Preferences > MIDI > MIDI File > Import Options > Ignore Master Track Events on Merge to disabled. It’s enabled by default.
Thanks for the reply. In the first option, my intent is not to create a new project but rather to use the existing project with plugins, etc. for the imported MIDI. If I create a new project I have to recreate the template from scratch. I also do have Ignore Master Tracks disabled. I’ll say again, the issue is that tempo track changes within an existing project are not reset when a new MIDI file with its own tempo track changes is imported. The tempo track changes of the previous MIDI are maintained and the new ones are simple added on to the old tempo track changes. I assume this is a bug.
Can you maybe delete the tempo-track before importing the next MIDI file?
And maybe create key commands and/or a macro to save some clicks?
Thanks for your reply. This is what I have been doing - deleting exisiting keyframes. I have not created a macro for doing it. I am unsure if this is expected behaviour or a bug. It does seem to be a bug as one would think that tempo data should overwrite.
It would seem so.
Since countless Cubase bugs and shortcomings remain unfixed, I tend to look for workarounds whenever possible.
– So I wasn’t sure, of you had also found a workaround.
