Cubase 15 -Track Versions, MIDI Inserts, MIDI Sends, Quick Controls will not expand

In Cubase 15, I am no longer able to expand the sub menus in the Track Inspector view for Track Version, MIDI Inserts, MIDI Sends, Quick Controls. Hovering the mouse of these areas and clicking does not expand the menu, likewise clicking on routing (which is expanded) does not collapse the view. Repeated clicking will result in a Cubase15.exe crash dump.

Hi,

Could you try in the Cubase Safe Start Mode [Disable preferences], please? If it works, you can delete the preferences later. This would delete the defaults.xml file.

If it doesn’t help, you can remove the whole Cubase preferences folder: Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% \Steinberg\Cubase X_64
Where the X is the Cubase version (for example 15).

This will merge your previous Cubase version preferences to Cubase 15.

If it doesn’t help, you can remove all Cubase versions preferences folders. This will give you the factory settings.

Have done both steps - including removal of all preference folders….. still the same issue.

Now going through removal and re-install of Cubase 15 Pro.

Will update shortly…..

Ok - removed cubase 15 Pro, restarted then reinstalled.

Problem seems to be fixed.

However on further investigation - it seems to be caused by changing the audio driver from Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver to the Yamaha-Steinberg USB ASIO driver.

I change the ASIO driver selection and problem occurs. Change back to Built in ASIO and all is good again. ……

Hi,

Do you have the latest driver (and Tools) installed?

Can you do anything in Cubase, or is it completely frozen? Isn’t there any hidden window behind?

Will double check drivers and tools - but pretty sure they are the latest (from the Yamaha site).

Other than the items mentioned Cubase is working normally and responsive.

Will lookout for “windows/popups behind” but pretty sure there are not.

Also, for completeness I am using the standard templates to test with (not my own projects) just to remove that potential variable. My projects however have the identical behaviour.

Also - I am well aware the other possible culprits in the mix are the midi changes in Windows released with mixed success recently. I tried (as per the other threads on the topic) to remove the relevant updates - it did not solve the issue but I haven’t tried again now that I have seen this driver related behaviour.

Again for completeness I am using the UR44C interface (I may have mentioned the UR22 earlier - that was my old box I haven’t used in years).

Confirmed - did a complete reinstall of UR44C and drivers

Tools package UR-C v4 from yamaha site implemented - when selected as audio out will cause the problem with the Midi modifiers etc submenus.

As soon as the inbuilt steinberg asio device is selected problem resolves

Hi,

What kind of graphic card do you use?

NVIDIA GeForce RTX5060

Hi,

Please try this:

  • Download the latest Studio driver version from here. If there is no Studio driver for your graphic card, use the one, which is available and continue with the same steps below.
  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet to ensure Windows will not download and install its graphic driver.
  • Uninstall the NVIDIA driver.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Start the NVIDIA driver installation (as administrator).
  • Don’t install the whole package, use the Custom (Advanced) settings.
  • Disable everything (don’t install NVIDIA Experience, PhysX, etc.), and keep the video driver enabled.
  • Connect your computer to the internet.

Hi Martin, 595.79 Studio driver installed as per your steps.

Unfortunately the behaviour in Cubase is the same.
