Cubase 6 MIDI Features

Hi. I have Cubase 5 at our school and I’ve always had trouble connecting midi controllers. If by some reason a controller gets frozen or stuck and we re-plug it in, Cubase doesn’t detect it. We have to restart Cubase entirely, loading all samples over again. We use FL Studio when we have issues sometimes, losing a lot of features in the process.

In Cubase 6, is there a way to refresh midi controllers without restarting Cubase? Interested in upgrading our systems.

Thanks

Aloha C,

In Cubase 6, is there a way to refresh midi controllers without restarting Cubase?

Have you tried using:
Cubase—>MIDI—>Reset?

As a MIDI guitarst/pianist/drummer I use MIDI Mono Mode as well as
MIDI Poly Mode and a few different types of controllers in different sitiuations;
so when on occasion I have to deal with MIDI connection probs,
‘Reset’ almost always works. And it works right in the song.
No restart (song or app) needed.

But keep in mind sometimes it is the controller that gets stuck and
that prob has to be dealt with in the controller itself.
Not Cubase.

Here is what I do:
1-Stop Cubase
2-Turn the power to the controller 'off and then back ‘on’.
Cubase then ‘sees’ the controller and I’m up-and-running.
I do not do the 'unplugging/replugging thing that you do.

One other thing,
(and granted this might be a lil tough in a school situation)
is to find a consistent order to ‘fire up’ controllers.
Once you find an order that works, stick with it.
Even if you do not need a particular controller
for a specific session, fire it up any way.
If that ‘chain’ is what works for you, go with it and do not change it.
