CuBase 7.5 Audio Mixdown causes crash

I am still using the same CuBase 7.5 that I’ve been using for years.

Today, when I went to do an Audio Mixdon of a project, the progress bar remained on zero and the DAW froze. I had to ctrl-alt-delete to end task in order to close the program down.
I’ve considered updating to a newer version but, since my projects arein 32bit, I will lose the plug ins.

I suspect the error has something to do with the e-licenser system now being obsolete (I could be wrong, but I did have some pop up messages regarding this prior to the issue).
Is there a way I can fix the error so I can mixdown the track?

Does the problem occur every time? Even if you restart Cubase? Even when you restart the computer?

Yes. I tried restarting both CuBase and my laptop and it still does the same thing. The mad thing is that when I load a project up I can edit and play it within the programme, but as soon as I go to audio mixdown the programme freezes.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

If Cubase 7.5 starts at all, it is highly unlikely that there is any problem with the USB-eLicenser.

You will need to provide a little bit more information though, for example:

  • what operating system are you using (PC or Mac)?
  • did you update anything else on that computer recently?
  • did this particular project allow an audio mixdown previously?
  • what plug-in are in use in this particular project?
  • have you tried creating an empty project, adding a MIDI-only track and trying an audio mixdown?

Thanks.

I’m using a PC with core i7

I haven’t updated anything on this laptop for a while

I performed a couple of Audio Mixdowns just 2 weeks ago

I’m not using any plug ins for this particular project

I haven’t tried creating an empty project and mixing down a MIDI only, but I have just loaded up several other projects and tried to mix them down. none of them work either.

I can’t remember exactly what the audio export dialog looks like in C7.5, perhaps you could post a screenshot here?

Is it possible that, at some point, you performed an audio export to a location that is now no longer accessible?

… what version of Windows is it?

You could also try starting Cubase with new Preferences. From memory, you do the following (I think):

  • quit Cubase if it’s running
  • using the Run (Win+R) command, type %APPDATA%\Steinberg and click OK
  • temporarily rename the Cubase 7_5 (?) folder to something else
  • try starting Cubase 7.5 and see whether the problem persists

If that works, you will have to set up all your settings again, otherwise go back to your old Preferences (quit Cubase and rename the folder back to what it was) and try to find the setting that was causing it to freeze.
