Cubase 7 crashes when opening a project, please help

Here’s the sequence of events:

  1. Cubase 7 crashed on close.

  2. Although I expect this has nothing to do with the problem, while CB7 was closed I successfully set up and installed Steinberg’s UR28M disgital audio interface.

  3. CB7 loads to the Steinberg hub screen (during the load it asks if I want the UR28M as the ASIO driver). It successfully connects to the Steinberg News feed. However, if I try to open either the Project I was working on when CB7 crashed or Open Other or Create New Project, CB7 instantly crashes to desktop.

I’m using Windows 7, 64 bit.

Windows produces these error files:

  1. DefaultDataCollection failed: 0x8007001f

Can anyone help?

Start Cubase in safe mode. you can search “Safe Mode” in the forum.

Thanks. Tried this and started CB with the disable prefs option. Same problem: CB crashed to desktop as soon as I tried to open a project.

I noticed that the safe mode feature doesn’t really disable everything, so try renaming Cubase prefs.

This sounds like a hardware error or a driver file corrupted error, so I would try manually removing and then reinstalling that new hardware.

I’m on mac, so that’s about all I have to offer…
