Cubase and Strange VST Latency Issues

VST Latency Video No Sound

Hello all! I am having issues with VSTs in Cubase 14 Pro (Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 7 58003XD, 8-Core 3.60GHz, 64GB RAM) and latency delays, AFTER I record events. This applies to other VSTs I own, not just Spectrasonic (Analog Lab, Korg, Roland, etc.). I am able to record the events I play the first time through. But after they are recorded, the instruments become latent. This seems to be an intermittent problem, but I am not making any changes whatsoever. The only thing that may be different is that I import audio clips, but I also have instances where that does not always prove to be true.

FYI, I couldn’t get the sound to record in this video, but if you look in the bottom left hand corner of Keyscape, you will see the “Play” button. This illuminates every time I play a key. You can see the delay from when the button lights up to when the meter activates on the right of the video. I don’t normally operate at a buffer size of 48, I’m normally around 128, that’s just to show that I lowered the buffer and I still have the same issue.

I will be contacting Customer Support also.

Thank you!

Hi,

If you are recording, the tracks are in “life” mode (no ASIO Guard is involved). Therefore I would try to disable the ASIO Guard at your system. Maybe, for some reason, it works better for you.

Sorry for the delayed reply, and thank you for your reply. I tried what you said with no success. This even happens with Steinberg VST. All drivers across the board are up to date

Hi,

What Audio Device do you own, please? Try to test your system by using Latency on utility, please. I’m afraid, you will need to increase the Buffer Size.

Btw, especially Spectrasonic is very CPU hungry.

That’s what’s so strange about it. Even at 48 buffer, I get no clicks or pops, just a delay. I can open up a new file with 4 instances (just stating that my processor can handle it) of Keyscape, Padshop, Arturia, or any VST linked to the same channel, save it, close it and reopen it, and it will play fine. The moment I add an audio sample or record audio, save it, then reopen it. I have this problem. Now that I say this, it seems the problem occurs when I add or record audio tracks . If it’s all VST there is no problem. I currently use a Focusrite 8i6 3rd Generation. I’m going to try to eliminate some background process next.

Could you try to create a project on a different drive if you have more than one?

Hi,

Is there any plug-in inserted on the Stereo Out or even Control Room/Monitor bus by any chance?

You’re a life saver bruh!! I have Ozone 11 in my Stereo Out, when I disabled it, I still had the problem. However, when I removed it the problem was gone. Now I have to figure out a workaround without having to disable it.

Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no workaround. The plug-in needs lots of resources, therefore, it adds a big delay to the whole mix (as it sits on any output bus).

Understood. I really, really appreciate your help. I guess I’ll have to use it in the mixing phase and not the tracking/recording phase of my music.

Just for clarity. You must have bypassed it not disabled it.
Bypass does not recalculate pdc, disable (Alt click) does recalculate pdc and so removes the latency.

Hi,

That means, that the solution, how to keep the plug-in on the output channel and avoid the latency while recording, would be to disable the plug-in while recording.

You could also enable the Constrain Delay Compensation.

You’re right I was just bypassing, not deactivating. Thanks for the feedback
