Exported audio mixdown peaking around -3db in cubase but around -6db when opened in wavelab. Why the discrepancy? Any advice appreciated.

can you reimport the audio mixdown in Cubase and run a quick analysis (Audio > Statistics)? Maybe an effect along the way you haven’t noticed?
Can you provide some details about the track (mono, stereo) as well as export and import settings?
Thanks for responding. I tried all that - I also adjusted the bit rate in Cubase and Wavelab. I didn’t change it but changed it and changed it back. Both seem to correspond now so maybe it was something to do with that (?)

Sometimes Cubase works in mysterious ways…
The bit rate should not have an impact on level, though. Hard to tell what caused a 3db difference in level now that it works as expected.
Did you export as MP3?
Yes I exported s mp3 and the same thing happened. But that is not so critical because when I have mastered the wav in Wavelab I just save a copy of that as mp3.
I asked since you mentioned bit rate.
A lossy compressed audio format can indeed differ in true peak compared to a lossless PCM format (e.g., MP3 vs Wav).
