Cubase Artist 8.5 not recording selected channel

Hello,

I’m using a Focusrite 2i2 1st Gen in Cubase 8.5. I have a guitar in my left input channel of the focusrite.

For my track, it doesn’t matter which input I select. The signal comes through the stereo left input, which I can also see in the mixer (since it’s plugged in left, also makes sense). However, when I press recording, nothing appears and I can also hear nothing.

VST Instruments work perfect so the general audio output is not the problem. To solve the issue, I tried creating a mono input, which listens to the stereo left input. The signal is being shown correctly, however when I press on record, nothing comes through.

In all my settings, the devices are active. I selected the correct audio device, activated all channels. Double-checked if there could be some mixup- but I can’t find anything.

In this screenshot you can see it “live”. I’m playing, see the signal, see the routing, yet nothing comes.

I tried reinstalling my drives, I reinstalled Cubase (multiple locations). Tried running as administrator, but nothing helped.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Edit: When I activate the monitor, I can also hear the guitar.

Sorry but in your screenshot we actually cannot see the signal not coming through to the audio track and here’s why: There is an option to tell Cubase not to create waveforms on recorded audio during the recording (it will create it afterwards); your audio channel is not engaged to listen to its input (monitoring button is not switched on).
Therefore we can’t see any problem on your screenshot. Could you do the screenshot again but with “Monitoring” on your audio track switched on?
Your settings look okay from what I can see.

Thank you for your answer. Here’s a screenshot with the monitor active, though during recording I usually have it turned off.

I can also hear the monitor. To clarify the waveform - it’s not that it’s not being rendered/shown, there’s no audiodata. After recording stop and playback, there’s nothing but silence.

The settings are correct, the signal is clearly there. I have no idea, why the audio signal is not written into the audio file.

The symptom usually happens if your user account for Windows does not have permission/the necessary rights to write into the folder where the audio is getting recorded to. That would be something to check in Windows, outside of Cubase.

I tried it with administrator rights as well, but nothing changed. I will still check all the folders permissions. The issue must be somewhere in the filesystem then.

I actually found the solution now. In the start screen, the location for the default save-location was set to a place that doesn’t exist.

Once I changed it to an actual path the recording immediatly worked.
Here is the screenshot of the value that needed to be changed:

Thanks a lot for the help!
