Cubase crashes when loading presets in the new Halion 7.1

Hello, yesterday with the previous version of Halion everything worked fine. Today I installed Halion 7.1. Unfortunately both Cubase 13 and 12 crash when I load presets in Halion 7.1. I reinstalled Cubase, Halion and its contents with no help. Does anybody experience the same? Is there a solution? Is it possible to download and install the previous version of Halion (7.0.20)? I am working on Windows 11. Thanks in advance!

Similar issue here, crashing in standalone and crashing FL Studio when loading presets. Windows 10.

“I returned to version 7.0.20, look for the installer in the Steinberg Downloader app’s Downloads folder.

Hopefully they’re aware of this issue and can get a fix out soon. A way to rollback to the previous version would be great in cases like this.

Hello, thank you for the replies so far. In addition to this forum request I sent a request for support to Steinberg. Steinberg is working on this issue. I re-installed the previous version of Halion and it works well, no problems with loading of presets anymore. Hopefully Steinberg can find a solution to this issue. Thanks.

Hi GJ1,
if it crashes reproducible in Cubase 12 / 13 then there should be log files. Please have a look in “Documents/Steinberg/Crash logs”
and upload the existing files here.
Thanks Gerrit

Hello, for your information: I provided the Cubase crash dump files and my computer system information already to Steinberg via the support ticket. They confirmed the files have been forwarded to the Steinberg development team. Hope this is sufficient.

Ok, I see! It was created as CAN-54803 and then shifted to the HALion Team (HALLY-10816).

Due to the description the crash seems releated to the “Show Emtpy Slots” setting in the Slot Rack.

Is “Show Emtpy Slots” turned on in your case?

As a workaround it might help to:

  • launch HALion 7
  • click on “Show Empty Slots” to turn it off
  • right click on the “Multi-Program” area and select “Save as default”
    save_default

best regards
Gerrit

It helped me for a while; I hope for a definitive solution.

Hello, thanks for the instruction to test. I know I used that Show Empty Slots feature. But unfortunately I don’t remember whether it was on at the time of the crash. I just tested it on one of my other computers (with a similar specification). I loaded a new project with only Halion. It does indeed seem to be related to the Show Empty Slots feature. But it wasn’t consistent for me either. I started with the Show Empty Slots on. Cubase crashed when loading a preset. If I do not close Cubase but immediately turn off the Show Empty Slots, the presets load well. And after that, it doesn’t matter whether the Show Empty Slots feature is on or off. Loading the presets continues to work well in both cases. But I didn’t test further for how long. I also hope that Steinberg can find a permanent solution to this. Thank you.

Hello everyone.
I had the same problem, with Sonic 7 in Cubase Elements 13.
I tried to install a previous version, but the system says I have no license for that.
Help, please!!!

Good Day, I have similar problems on two Windows laptops, but MacBook Pro works without problems so far. When I load a few instruments, an error message pop ups saying that there occurred a serious error and Cubase became unstable, and when I try to save the project, Cubase notifies me that it will save the project as a new version, but the old version will remain intact. However, I could still work on the same project before saving it but with each new preset, I have to close the Halion interface; otherwise, the slot for a preset I try to load is frozen as if loading the preset, yet, I can play that “still loading” preset. After closing Halion and opening it again, the slot shows normal with the loaded preset. By default, “show empty slots” is closed, but I make it show the empty slots. I am not sure in what order I do the “show empty slots”~before or after loading additional presets.

I’m on Mac and Halion 7.1 is crashing Cubase 13.41 constantly too.

Steinberg should be embarrassed by this mess

This is now happening to me (unstable dialog when attempting to load a patch) after installing 7.1 as part of Absolute 6 on Windows (10). I can work round it by turning off “show empty slots” as suggested but this is not ideal as there are times when I forget to this when loading projects and then have to restart Cubase.

If anyone from Steinberg is reading this: when is it likely to be fixed please?
