Cubase crashing unexpectedly

Hi guys,

I have recently install Cubase 6.5.0 on my new i7 hp desktop (4gb ram). Although Cubase is legit there may be some plugins that I lost the code for and had to crack (honest) such as waves, stylus rmx, ozone, ohmboyz, lexicon reverb, omnisphere, trash, psp vintage warmer, sonnox oxford, tc electronics, t-racks. Now from time to time Cubase crashes unexpectedly, sometimes saying there has been a runtime error, other times just closing with no warning.

How would you go about troubleshooting the problem? Can I simply unhook plugins from the vst plugin menu until I discover which one might be causing the problem? Does anybody know of any likely culprits from the ones listed above?

Did you installed the last update to 6.5.5?
Give us more info about your system (use a signature to inform that).

No but I’m running XP because I believed it to be more stable than windows 7 and Cubase 6 does not support XP does it. Is the answer windows 7?

I think that Cubase 6.5 is not officially supported under XP. But I know some people are using it without major issues. Maybe this is the source of your problems.

I think Windows 7 64 bits is more stable (and faster) than XP 32 bits.

I think a reinstall of windows 7 might be what my wknd is about then. I think a lot of plugins still aren’t supported by 64bit systems though are they?

Hello there,

I am having more problems with Cubase 6.5.5 (latest version). It crashes a lot of the time when I’m saving for no apparent reason, sometimes during a session. Some of the time (but not always) it says VST bridge lost, which i assume could be to do with a 3rd party plugin, again not always.

I would love to know what is causing this as it’s really interupting my workflow and I lose a lot of work.

Thanks for your reply. I am guessing my problems with crashing are due to 3rd party plugins- this is what I’m told by Steinberg when I have reported the problems.

I have just reinstalled windows 7 64bit with Cubase 8 and have had the same problems (crashing, freezing upon saving, vst bridge lost) and only have a couple of 3rd party plugins installed, however the plugins I have installed have seemed to work fine in the project.

I previously had the JBridge application running, which bridged 32bit plugins to a 64bit system, although my friend is running a 64bit version and has no problems with any of his plugins without this app, so I am trying without now. It is such a minefield to detect exactly what is causing these crashes, I will systematically uninstall each plugin and test until the system is stable and one by one reinstall, I suppose this is the only way to test. I will report back with my findings…!

One plugin which I think may be a problem is Sugarbytes WOW filter which isn’t showing up in the programmes list to uninstall (a real shame because I love this filter) if anyone knows how to uninstall it another way that would be great…
