Cubase divided tracklist - divided opinion (actually a bug?)

Track list division (top & bottom) is a good thing.

What is annoying is a lack of focus options via Tab key.

But more frustrating is the way even manual focusing is not friendly. For example:

  1. Have a track selected in the bottom section
  2. Click on an event in the top section (with option ‘track selection follows event selection’)
  3. Watch the track in the top section with that event become the newest highlighted track
  4. Use key command to increase the track height.
  5. Watch the frustrating result that the old track selection in the bottom half is the one that gets affected instead.
  6. Realize that the only way to get Cubase to clock to the fact that you want to change the selection to a top-half track is by clicking on another track in the top half and then back on the one you want in focus.

I think there should never be more than one part/event be selected if I select that event with a single left-click.
Currently I can select a part/event in the lower half and a previously selected part/event in the upper half remains selected.

I think you description just points out one specific problem of that misch-masch.
It doesn’t happen on my machine as I have this option deactivated:

But, yeah, the current way of how it’s working can lead to confusion easily.
Also, I have to manually de-selected any event in the upper half (I am primarily working in the lower half). Annoying.

Currently I can select a part/event in the lower half and a previously selected part/event in the upper half remains selected.

Yes, exactly another situation I run into. Agreed that mine is just one of several scenarios, but they are all seemingly from the same tree, where the divided tracklist and how it handles focus is concerned.

A single left-click should clear the previously selected event.

The reason I like to keep ‘track selection follows event selection’ is because it allows me to easily zoom in on a selected event, where upon I rely on selected track vertical zoom shortcuts.

Yep, agree, I often e.g wonder why suddenly my cycle markers are colored after I clicked a track or selected an event to color in the lower half… it’s somewhat always doing the wrong thing or the thing you don’t expect….

It spoils an otherwise handy tool for organizing tracks.
