Cubase Elements 9.5 does not issue setChunk

I am writing a VST instrument (v. 2 not 3) and settings for this instrument is saved in a chunk. Cubase calls getChunk alright. I would expect that the chunk data is saved with the project file (like other hosts do) and returned to my VST plugin through setChunk. But, no. The function setChunk never gets called, whatever I try to do. I have tried the Copy settings and Paste settings as well, but nothing. Any ideas, anyone?

edit: though I see they do not provide a VST 2 subforum there- just VST 3.
