Cubase EQ: some questions

Im on the continual goal to minimise. I actually think the native EQ is quite a decent eq and have used similar on the yamaha desks…so Im guessing the belong to the same origin. ie for a simple clean digital eq

HOWEVER

Ihave spent some time trying to get flexlble positioning and can do that within the strip but

  1. Channel EQ seems to be after slot 1; How can I get the eq to be before slot 1 as a user choice. Just double checking and the filters are prior slots but the channel eq is not
  2. How do I get gain compensation on the eq eg there seems to be no trim on the eq module which means another sloppy trim plugin somewhere…surely there is a trim somewhere hidden? Im missing something?? How do others do it.

Cheers for any help

Ah it came back to me…that tiny little switch beside the name for the eq question…but question 2. remains

BTW why are the colours for these things not consistent…pre/post fader sends are blue/orange…why is the convention not used here?

When you have the channel strip open there are 2 tabs. One is Channel Strip and the other one is labeled Equalizer. Click on the Equalizer tab, that will present you with a new set of equalizer settings including “pre”.

Hi @Easto

Sorry where?

There is nothing there other than Pre FFT which is only placing the SA

I also quite like the channel EQ and use it pre inserts extensively. Never had a need for a post EQ gain trim. I use the pre gain if needed. It doesn’t matter if the gain control is before or after the EQ when they’re both before the inserts.

I think we might be on diff pages

The most used tool is AB for me…and quite often also morph or flip bands on/off for eq..eg midrange scoop when there is space in the vrs and then flick mid scoop off in choruses etc

This makes it irritating to use when AB is not a transparent process eg as per, I think, every single other plugin which has a gain and also the native AB feature

Because I’m wanting to use the eq as a spectral balance as pre inserts, it means it needs to be auto gained or at least level matched appropriately else the switching changes levels to dynamics etc…along with a bunch of other stuff if you know what I

Ie the eq is modulating so it is responsible for level control
