@Martin.Jirsak I’ve stopped the crashing with the AXR4 extensions but I’m getting a freeze now on opening Cubase and it loading the hub. This is the basic hub not with the feed.
As I said I’ve reinstalled windows last week and removed the extensions so it’s a pretty clean setup now.
Any ideas?
Cubase 13.0.41 64bit 2024.7.1 13.42.43.039-freezedump.dmp (2.2 MB)
Cubase won’t quit from task manager either for a good 10 minutes.

The crash is in the Windows audio driver wdmaud.drv
Can you try enabling WinRT as MIDI device interface, this is usually the reason for this kind of crash.

Thanks, I’m back to where i started LOL this was my first Cubase 13 crash. reinstalling everything has obviously put this back to default.
OK, I’ve changed to Win RT and now I’ve lost my Drawbar control and my Oxygen 25 keyboard! If I switch back to ‘default’ everything works as normal.
Any suggestions? How can I perhaps delete all the midi devices and start from scratch?

Hi,
These devices are probably not compatible with the latest Microsoft MIDI driver type: WinRT.
@Martin they’re both faily new devices bought in the last year. So I have to return to the standard default midi system. Studio One and Reaper naver had issues with any of my midi devices, Does Cubase use a unusual midi system? pete brown at Microsoft says there’s no isses with standard WDM midi.

Seems it is… anyone onw know what specifically this is?

p.s. Why is it saying Windows 10? I’m on Win 11 latest
Hi,
This is the old buggy Windows MIDI Driver. You should use WinRT instead.
@martin I’d love to but switching to the Win RTR messes up my midi hardware and it doesn’t work properly.
There’s obviously somethng going on with Cubase as Studio One and Reaper have zero issues with the same hardware.
Surely there’s some old code in there that needs looking at.

well, I spent all day today trying to get WinRT midi working. The main culprits that are NOT working properly are:
Steinberg CC121
Steinberg AXR4 midi
I reintsalled driver for the devices, I moved them to direct connections on my computer in case it was related to a USB hub but nothign I did got them working properly with Win RT.
As soon as I changed back to the default windows midi everything works perfectly.
Can anyone else help here in 1: why windows midi (WDM) is crashing cubase and not studio One or Reaper…and 2: why Midi RT isn’t working?
As far as I know 99% of windows users just use the default windows drivers, I’ve never had to chage anything in the past so this is all new to me.
TIA
