I’ve noticed that Cubase Pro 15 has a tendency to lock up if another window such Windows Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, etc. is opened will Cubase Pro is busy doing something that’s taking a long time to complete; such as Export Project to a WAV or Export Video.
Can that be investigated and fix?
Other than that. This DAW is insane!
I don’t work with video in Cubase, but I frequently work in other applications, including Outlook, Edge, File Explorer, Notepad, and various other things when Cubase is doing a long audio export (e.g. exporting stems almost always takes a long time since they have to go through the mastering chain, thus having to be done serially rather than in parallel). I’ve never seen Cubase lockup in this scenario. While I’ve only run Cubase 15 on my modern, powerful Windows 11 system (Intel Core Ultra 9 285k, 64 GB, NVME drives for both system and audio drive and SATA SSD for sample libraries), this was also the case with Cubase 14 and earlier on my older Windows 10 system (i7 5820K, 16 GB RAM, SATA SSDs for the relevant drives by the end of its use, hard drives on some earlier).
The only thing I have noticed that may be relevant here is that, if you just try to Alt-Tab back to Cubase (or possibly click on the Cubase screen directly), it will just beep at me. To get back to it, I have to click on the taskbar icon and specifically select the project window from the choices available there. That probably relates to the export window having the focus and probably being a “child” of the project window, with the other windows’ (e.g. I always at least have the MixConsole open on my secondary monitor) not being available during the export operation itself.
Here’s a possible solution for Steinberg to investigate. Stop ALL processes relative to Cubase Pro 15 when the user do the following on The Hub
a. Clicks File → Quit
b. Clicks the X located in the upper right-hand corner of the form
