Cubase has several independent 'undo' stacks

I expect CmndZ to undo anything I do, even if it is just something visual - such as hiding tracks.

If I hide selected tracks, I can’t quickly unhide them (if it was the last thing I did) using CmndZ, as I believe anybody would expect it to work. Anyone else having this issue?

Hi,

Show/Hide Track is more like a setting of your project, not a functional change (the project sounds the same before and after).

Same as Undo function doesn’t Undo your windows layout, if you move/open/close a window.

It’s like this by design.

Undo only ever applies to edits.

Well, I guess I have an issue with the design. I guess I could see why people like might want CmndZ to only be for edits but…coming from Logic, I’m used to it covering almost everything.

Visibility changes have their own undo stack in Cubase. By default there is no key command assigned to this kind of undo but you can chose one yourself:

Some nerd info: There are several independent undo stacks in Cubase.

  • project edits
  • mix console edits (includes audio effect plugins)
  • zoom
  • track and channel visibility

The advanatge is that you can undo your last “hide tracks” even if you made several edits to your project in between.
The zoom undo is very handy. You can zoom in with a key command on an event, do detailed edits, then undo zoom to get back to your previous view.
The disadvantage is that one needs to know about this in the first place and it takes some time getting used to.

Thank you for this info, Johnny! Exactly what I was looking for. I have no issue with this system of undo that you just described.
Thanks!
