Cubase Installation Media

Is it possible to use the Download assistant to create full installation media for the product - preferably on a USB stick ?

I have selected a folder on a USB stick as the “Target Folder” in the Download Assistant, and the installation proceeds when the download is complete.

However, when I use the stick on another machine, (I have 2 Cubases licences) the Download Assistant simply downloads everything again and overwrites it. I dont have a particularly fast broadband connection so its more than slightly tiresome to hang around and wait for something to download when I already have it.

Should I forget about the Download Assistant and try to carry out the 2nd install direct from the USB stick - and if so, whats the process ?

I suspect this problem may not be limited to Cubase

Hey there - once you’ve downloaded the install files to the USB stick, you would just run the installation from the USB, not from the Download Manager on the second system. SDM just downloads the files to local media, and will install for you from that local media. If you already have the files downloaded, you do not need SDM to install them - just launch them directly

As often as you are able!

Hahahaha. The “downside” to not using SDA is “ease of use” in regard to easily identifying which products to update and of course “auto-installation.” It also prevents you from getting the SDA updates (if you don’t run it) which could fix the connection issues people have that prevent them from using SDA in the first place. Like, I’ve not had time to thoroughly review, but it looks like the new version (1.37.4) is addressing ARA2 component issues and updating the JRE.

If you’re not having connection issues with the SDA (as @Googly_Smythe has presumably, cough, because of firewall configs, cough) then from my perspective there’s nothing wrong with using SDA - it’s all good

In which case, maybe some sort of batch file or utility to manage the installation might be helpful - and I cant imagine that it could be THAT difficult to engineer.

Alternativley, just “fix” the SDA so that it can examines the files already in the target folder and only downloads whats required to bring it up to date ?

“just launch them directly” seems like a bit of a (potentially error prone) faff considering that there are about 25 different components to deal with if you are doing a virgin install

The difference is that what is already installed on your original system will impact what is required to download unless you went through all your products and “removed download.” If you did that, then potentially you could download SDA on the new computer, point it to the USB, and (if it’s Windows) it might pick up what files are there. I kind of doubt it, though.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re looking for - either just download them again, or just launch the installer directly, even if it’s 25 components. It’s all pretty easy stuff. Good luck!
