I’m trying to import mp4 videos into Cubase. I can get all mp4’s imported, but I have Sibelius wmv files that are videos made from playback of the score. These will not import into Sibelius, so I used a Movavi video converter, and none of the mp4 files I am exporting from this change from .wmv to .mp4’s are importing into Cubase. I’m using Cubase 12. I did try the same files in Cubase 14 and I also had the same problem. I’m not sure what to do here. Any help please? That would be great. I desperately need to get these files done. Thanks for any help with this.
wmv and mp4 are just containers.
What you need is the information about the used codec. Use the freeware Mediainfo to get the used codec format and then start the conversion / export / import
Mediainfo is saying its a MPEG-4. , I’m guessing the software is not turning the file into an mp4, so there is something wrong with the software then. Just googled the difference between mp4 and mpeg-4. Ones the material and the other is the container. But I’m not sure what to do with the Movavi video converter. I must be using something wrong. I am selecting mp4 as the output though.
Hi reberclark, sorry, I missed your post. I’ll try this. I do have handbrake the latest version installed so that may be a solution. Gonna give it a go now. Thanks
Hi again, I converted it to an MP4 using handbrake, and when I went to import it into Cubase, it detected it was an mp4 but it still would not load. Here is a snapshot of the handbrake details:
So I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here. So, when I go to import it from cubase, I select “Mp4” down the bottom right, and it detects it as such as it as an mp4, but when I select mpeg-4, it detects it as that as well. So, there is something going wrong in the conversion process maybe, even though I select mp4 as the output?
Actually, I just opened HBrake, and these settings I used were exactly the same as yours. i wonder if it is having trouble turning a .wmv file to an mp4? Regardless, I’ll try it again. Here is my settings. Maybe you will notice something that I may have missed.
no, unfortunately, it didn’t work. Opened up Cubase, and it recognized the file as an mp4, but importing it, nothing happened. Not sure what to do next
ok, even more confusing. I just converted a different sibelius movie file into a Quicktime video, and it worked! So tried it with another Sibelius movie file - to a quicktime, and it would not import into Cubase. Very strange. Not sure what is going on here.
Hi everyone, thank you to all who helped me out here. Ben, who is the Yamaha/Steinberg support in Australia, analyzed one of my mp4 videos, and found the frame rate per second was the problem. Cubase won’t take anything more than 60 fps, so Ben explained how he used software to take the frame rate down, so I did something similar using my Movavi Video Converter Software, converting the .wmv videos down from the high rate they were to 30 fps MP4 and there was no trouble after that pulling them into cubase.
first when converting with HandBrake make shure to set constant framerate. Cubase wont accept variable framerate. And when you set to constant framerate under video table- select framerate FPS you need.
Only then after converting Cubase will accept mp4 video file
