I used 3FSP for years to record my songs, and then I had to get a new (Dell) computer and switch to Presonus StudioLive16R. I only have 2 ports for my Roland VAD drumset. I’ve recorded the drums midi in a lot of songs, and then I wondered, how would I get the separation if I wanted a studio to mix down, as they are only on 2 channels and there are no open ones.
then I got the idea of going back to my win 3 computer with the FSP and just playing a drum part of a song from the Dell computer into the TD50x of the VAD set, and using the 8 direct outs into the FSP. then I could import those 8 tracks into the I connected the 8 outs and I see the activity on the 8 channels of the FSP, but though I set inputs to record the sound into Cubase and all seems right, I get no signal at all. Any suggestions on what might be wrong? I’m having a problem with the email on the Win7 and also the Dell and have to call Godaddy that doesn’t recognize me, and on hold over 20’. When I solve this I will send pictures from the project.
2 hours with Godaddy, 12 sign-ins, only to find I can’t get email on the Win7 computer. Sent pix to myself to get on this one and post.
So I can see that a lot of the channels are showing not connected. What are you seeing on the input channels in Cubase? If nothing then the outputs from the td50x are not there. Have you set the routing up on the td50x to output what you want on the 8 outs?
Why are you showing a lot of not connected on the inputs? I’d be tempted to delete them all and start again so you only have connected inputs. Then open just the Cubase inputs mixer (not the tracks you are recording onto) do you gave any activity? Does the td50x look like it’s playing? What if you plug something else into the inputs one at a time do you then see a signal?
When I first tried one cord on the kick drum, it was a mono. Looking at the TD50x manual, I saw that they were stereo so I switched to that kind, and since I had a signal, I connected the other 7. I was a little confused in how the routing should be though. If I used the stereo ins, then Cubase would be looking for 2 cords, one each for right and left. Should I have used mono cords?
Anyway, when the drum part plays in Cubase 13 on the Dell, I see the activity on the FSP corresponding to the hits and rhythms of the pads in the FSP in ports on the FSP which is connected to the Win7 computer with Cubase 8.5. So the sound is definitely going from the direct outs into the FSP but not thence to Cubase. Everything is off now, at 5:40am. Later in the day I will set all on again, where I left off.
So I played a song on the Win7 computer (Nimbus), and after setting the stereo and main outs to the FSP, the song came out of the speakers hooked up to the Nimbus. Surprisingly, when the Cubase in Dell played the drum part that was being sent to the TD50x with its direct outs into the FSP, that sound also came out of the speakers, though in cubase 8.5 there, still no activity showed.
So then I was taking a picture of the device routing in the song that played, and I had to go to web mail and get a code on the Dell to send to the Nimbus, before getting to email there. After entering the code the screen went black and then I saw that the Nimbus had to reboot. So I was already to send the picture to myself and then to the forum and now I am waiting to get back where I was.
So after rebooting and getting back to where I was, I found that the way it is configured already, just playing the Dell project with the drums, comes out the speakers that are connected to the Nimbus. So the directs from TD50 go to the Presonus, where the lights on the channels flash as the various drum channels are active, the sound comes out the speakers configured in cubase to output, but I see no monitor activity in Cubase. Here is the device setup here.
So then I wondered what would happen if I tried to record anyway. I pressed the * and it jumped to M82. there is no marker or anything. Tried again. then I wondered if that was the right way to record and pressed the Cubase 8.5 help menu and instead got this.
So I was finally able to get audio response on all 8 channels. Problem was before the wrong one of the 2 FSP. But * jumps to M82. And I can’t get the transport window.
So no transport bar, but if I press *, it jumps to somewhere in M82, and I can record there. After doing so, since the beginning of the track wasn’t visible, I condensed as much as possible and then it was at the very edge of the right side, where I was able to grab it and pull to the beginning. I had no opportunity to set a time signature nor tempo, and since the original was 113 measures and squeezed into only a couple, it must have a tempo of about a beat per minute or something crazy. I wonder if anyone has ever seen anything like this. I will trim to the start and finish and see if I can export the tracks and import to C13. It sounded correct playing.
